The Ritual - 3/5
It was tense and suspenseful for a bit but then it turns real stupid near the end.

Revenge - 1/5
Just gratuitous violence trying so hard to be stylish and no substance. I'm really tired of seeing rape being portrayed in movies.

The Lost World (1925) - 9/10

Charming story, excellent special effects, unfortunate blackface.

Capricorn One - 8/10

Tight 1970s conspiracy thriller. First you think you're watching a forgotten sci-fi classic, next thing you know, you're watching OJ Simpson run for his life out in the desert. If only TOC was around to discuss.

The Time Machine (1960) - 9/10

Man travels forward thousands of years to find the love of his life: a childlike, dimwitted blonde.

You are a good cinephile Flaming Globes

FYI while Time Machine seems like a cool film, it totally bastardizes Wells' original novella, which you should check out.

I dunno man, they turn the Eloi into blonde hippy kids when they're nothing like that at all in the book. But yeah it's a cool film in its own right, of its time I suppose.

The Greatest Showman - C

Forced to watch in the bus on the way home from Church Camp. Having lived thin Singapore for a year now, I can genuinely say that I found it less enjoyable than a bowl of pig organ soup.

one of those films I watched and then felt like i had only dreamt it one night
I still don't even know if that was actually James Franco or not

I didn't like that part of the movie, so maybe I need to get on the book.

I always thought The Lost World was a bad sequel to the Jurassic Park movie.

Bad as The Lost World: JP was, it's still marginally better than JPIII and infinitely better than Jurassic World.

I liked Jurassic World quite a bit more than The Lost World, but this is kinda like arguing whether monuments or zeitgeist is the better album.

In the end it doesn't even matter.

Jurassic Park kind of captured the spirit of the novel even though it made some changes, but the Lost World veered away from the source material and it just got worse from there

This is bullshit, because we all know the correct answer is Oceania!

Jurassic World just had so much bullshit going on it became hard to overlook. Shitty attitude toward its female characters, piss-poor attempts at humorous banter from Pratt, lifeless CGI, unlikable kids and that big, stupid reveal when the kid opens the curtains and the Jurassic Park theme swells as he looks at... a crowd of people?

At least TLW had some really good effects/set-pieces and Julianne Moore in her prime.

I actually think most of the changes made for JP were for the best.

I still remember sitting in the theater for TLW and just being in shock at how badly they went off the map. Then, years later, I re-read TLW and I forgave them.

Watching The 1925 Lost World, I can see what they were going for with TLW:JP, with some updated elements from that story carried over. Thankfully, no blackface.
