Has Bill ever commented on the fact that he hired Jeff and Ginger as lookalikes?

I wouldn't say Ginger was a look-alike at all, just another female bass player. In the old days Bill had spoken about how having a woman in the band was important, and they had already replaced D'arcy with another woman once.

Replacing James with a half-asian guy is weirder to me. I guess as cynical as I am about Corgan, I still want to think he didn't choose Jeff specifically because of his race. The two of them have a good chemistry as guitarists, and seem to genuinely like each other. Jeff has now been playing consistently with Billy for longer than any other musician in his life.

According to interviews (Zeitgeist DVD I think) Jimmy picked them first, there was no intention to have an Asian and/or a girl in the band, it just happened. Before Ginger, they were playing with Eric Avery, but it didn't work out, then there was this girl called Jenny or something like that, and then Ginger.
