Well as we're doing it, here's my Machina:

1. Everlasting Gaze
2. Glass' Theme
3. Dross
4. Stand Inside Your Love
5. Slow Dawn
6. Try Try Try
7. Raindrops and Sunshowers
8. Cash Car Star
9. Imploding Voice
10. Let Me Give The World To You
11. Vanity
12. Glass and the Ghost Children
13. Here's To The Atom Bomb
14. Age of Innocence

That's a pretty good album. Those four opening tracks would rival any of their albums' opening four. It would certainly solidify the supposed "back to rock" concept post-Adore.

Everlasting Gaze was the lead radio single of Machina and it bombed, people didn’t like it and it demonstrates Billy ripping off Marilyn Manson goth-metal yet failing to reach that audience..

The riff is bad, the lyrics are pretentious, Bill’s vocals are annoying, the video is cringe.
It’s a shocker honestly... I’ll grant IOTM but TEG is one of the worst tracks across M1&M2, a poor man’s WBFTD, and contributed to the albums commercial failure.

I think it's great. The guitar tone is really cool, and the drumming is immense. Especially at the end. Video is cool too.

Think, if we'd sidestepped Adore and this came out instead, right after TEITBITE and the success of MCIS, it and the album would've done much better. After Adore, the fanbase was effectively killed off, so without that there'd have been no reason why another album of more rock stuff wouldn't have done well.

I appreciate this tracklist. Good choices, maybe not enough M2. Ram gets it.

After 24 hours of careful consideration and feeding a lot of data into a supercomputer, I wish to make a substitution. The end of G&TGC does run nicely into “Radio...” and that equally flows into HTTAB. So Crying Tree is out. Cougared. You can improve on perfection.

Slow Dawn
Lucky 13
Cash Car Star
Real Love
LMGTWTY
Dross
SIYL
Try, Try, Try
G&TGC
I Of The Mourning
Here’s the the Atom Bomb (M1)

Speed Kills (M2)
Vanity
BSBT Electronique
Go
This Time
Imploding Voice
In My Body
Wound
With Every Light
Home
If There Is A God (piano)
AOI

the only machina list i ever made was shortening the original release by cutting off 5 songs from the album. and yes, The Everlasting Gaze was one of them.

anyone who makes a Machina list that cuts TEG needs to just let me know upfront like myosis just did so I don't have to bother even looking at the rest of it

Home is a better track and less dated than TEG - the Pumpkins are stronger emulating U2 than Manson. TEG was the commercial figurehead of Machina and it was a collossal failure.

Home is top tier.

Facts.

Home just has such a magical, shoegazy, dreamy vibe... and that bridge, ah, that bridge! Riverbanks and catacombs...

It’s taken 20 years to try every sequence.

Adore still beats anyone's Machina playlist here, including my own. Sorry, someone had to bring this forum back down to Earth.

i can't even rank Adore against the other SP1 albums anymore

what it's trying to achieve is so much different from MCIS or Machina. sure Machina had production elements that might've been brought over from the A sessions, but comparing it to Billson's actual solo records sits more comfortably w/ me these days than trying to put it up against some huge rock opera undertaking like Machine

Man, Adore is pure pumpkins to me. I wish they kept going in that direction and Bilbo stopped giving a fuck about fame and monies and stadiums full of screaming idiots...

I just wish he'd stepped away from the band for a minute so they could come back with something more like Machina on the 4th album & not spend the next 20 years trying to overcorrect for the "letdown" that was Adore as an SP album

Adore was better than M1 in terms of individual songwriting, but Billy called it a funeral march: it’s one note and on every other level Machina 1 is better. Taken as a body of work with M2, Machina era destroys Adore.

This era has some of strongest and accessible material in their catalogue, but the tracklisting and aesthetic choices of M1 ensured it didn’t connect with an audience.
That’s part of the reason TEG is so shitty: The whole **** “you know I’m not dead” couple with this super cryptic biblical ye olde name and aesthetic.

If the first single had been Cash Car Star, a track I don’t love but had a very 2000 vibe and straightforward message, and the video had been a simple band performance with Bill in a beanie hat and civilian getup rather than reprising his awful Adore black dress and makeup, then Machina would’ve connected with more of the nu metal crowd. But the name Machina was kind of shit and the tracklist of M1 is fucking dull. Better off sticking with FAEOMM or Black Wings Over America.
