I have kids around the same age as Corgans, I really connected with Ogilalas dad-folk vibe. It got me right in the heart

this album was like listening to nothing

nothing on it stands out, it's good in that it isn't embarrassing

There’s nothing on here I like (love) as much as Half Life, Spaniards, Archer... I could list most of that record... maybe I’d give this a 10/12. It’s a cool record. His heart is clearly more into this than that so it’d be great if he’d do more of this and less of that.
What kind of weird 1/7 scale do you use?? What's your rating out of 10?

There was a time when this would have been a 20-30 page thread.

I've listened to it twice, tuned out of it both times and put on something more engaging. Deeply uninspiring so far.

I really wanted to love this album. All of your 'Best since Adore' comments got me interested, but....it's business as usual

why, 7/7 would be 10/10. of course....

but if he had given 6/7, that would make 8,571428571428571 out of 10
so you kinda see why he sticks to the 7 scale.

I was excited when I heard Faithless Darlin’ on some promo video but it turns out that’s the only one I like

And I realised that I like it because it reminds me of Sufjan Stevens

I'm 4 songs in and it's ok. Not terrible, and there is a fair amount of unexpected shit so far. This album is, to my knowledge, the first time BC has ever incorporated pedal steel guitar in a recording

After reading the replies, I think the consensus is that in 5 years, everyone here will be saying Adore was their idea and Cotillions was an artistic representation of the times we lived.

Same here. The first 30 seconds sounded like something off Illinois and sounded good. Disappointed to hear the full song. :-/ The singing also ruins the song too.

A handful of good songs, then a lot of repetitive, aimless strumming. Didn’t make it through one listen. Too many tracks by far. The first 5 tracks would’ve made a decent EP though.

The Sufjan esque noodling is the kind of solo work Bill should’ve been doing 15 years ago. Better yet, some of these tracks could’ve filled out the Shiny Oh So Bright tracklist and given some contrast to the clipped rock on the SP records. Light and shade etc.

Vocals are excruciating in places.

Prefer Ogilala on first listen.

Like any sensible person I use as large or small a scale as necessary to represent my opinion with COMPLETE accuracy.

Fragile the Spark is the best one for me so far, as it's the only one that would possibly sit comfortably alongside his older work. I'm thinking Soothe, Stumbeline, etc.

Plus he sings it really nicely.
