This used to be one of my favourite albums, but I feel like I've lost my taste for grunge. I dunno, I don't dislike it, but all those bands I used to like, I hardly listen to anymore.

Maybe I should give this album another try. It and Vs. were among my most spun albums in high school.

It's funny, I feel a similar distance from music from my youth as well. Granted, the stuff I've rejected is mostly cruddy nu-metal that was never going to age well, but part of me wonders if it's a sign of my age or just depression. I can't get on board with the whole "membah when this was great and everything was awesome?"

I still engage with music from my younger days, but have virtually no nostalgia for this whole other huge chunk of my musical history I'm speaking of.

ANYWAY, I was never a PJ guy. PJ Harvey, yes. Harvey Danger, definitely. But Pearl Jam were never my jam.

This has been a contribution to the thread.

I prefer Vs and Vitalogy. I think both of those have aged better than Ten. I've always been baffled by how uncool people make them out to be. I feel like they've kept their integrity and continue to do things that don't piss off the fans. That being said, I haven't listened to anything after Binaural (and I think I listened to that one once). Anyway, there's better bands to hate on.

They really are a very good band with a lot of good songs. I do get that they are cheesy and totally 90s blah blah but they turned out to have more integrity and respect for their own music and their fans than basically any other band of that era. Other than the drummer they have kept the original band together, they have come to bat for their fans vs. the music/ticket industry, and afaik they have never allowed their music to be used to sell cars or credit cards. How many acts are there around who, 30 years into their career, can literally pull out ANY song from their discography on any night? And Eddie Vedder is actually a pretty cool and down-to-earth human.

I can hear what you mean in that Vs. and Vitalogy have aged better, but IMO, Ten is the only PJ album that is solid all the way through. Pretty much every other PJ album I feel like half the songs are decent to good and the other half are skippers. I know I am in the minority on this, but I actually would nominate Yield as their 2nd best album because it wholistically comes closest to recreating the precise, neatly-constructed sound of Ten, whereas Vitalogy sounds looser and I could just do without some of the songs.

yeah I would probably choose Deep as the weak link. Garden is my jam though.

I'd like to add my voice to this choir of veddering.
It's probably the only Pearl Jam album I can listen to front to back without getting too bored.

And not to be one of those "this song so brings me back!!!" people, but a few of these songs happened to be playing when some of my favorite memories were being made.

Vitalogy had some really great tracks and I appreciate that they tried to diversify their sound, but it also had tracks like "Better Man," which are kinda bland and were pretty prophetic of early 2000s post-grunge.

Jeremy and especially Alive are two of the greatest tracks of the nineties.

'Jeremy spoke in class today' is a memorable line.

I recently sold my copy of Ten.

Yeah, the Dead Milkmen are super underrated. Really wish more people were down to talk about 'em.

I bet Elph would approve.

Never been the biggest Pearl Jam guy myself... They're a great live act though and they've definitely taken the best trajectory compared to any of the other 90's acts. I was actually listening to Yield the other night. Really nice album to have playing in the background

Why did you hyphenate "rock-album?"

It's bothering me.
