i remember hearing billy said something like "i know this isn't popular but i'm glad hip hop is finally dead" in like 2007-8. when it was kinda temporarily dying. but he actually said that live at a gig, and i remember you could hear like 4 people awkwardly cheering and then crickets. what a dork

that's the same quote I am thinking of. I thought it was in an interview. It was something like, "I know this is a massively unpopular opinion but hip hop has contributed nothing to music blah blah and it's actually done a tremendous amount of damage."

Most will tell you to start with the albums Peace Sells...but Who's Buying? and Rust in Peace. And I'm no different. Those are clearly the best albums Megadeth has released. I do love their debut, but that suffers from shoddy production. So Far...So Good...So What! has only 2-3 good songs, but one of them ("In My Darkest Hour") is one of Mustaine's best. Everything after those first four albums are hit or miss, but mostly miss (another Corgan similarity?)

Avoid Risk and Super Collider at all costs.

One thing of note...when looking for those first four albums, try your best to find the original copies instead of the remasters. A lot of the master tapes had been lost, so certain parts had to be re-recorded...particularly the vocals. It may not matter to someone who has never heard them before, but the differences were incredibly noticeable (and awful) to someone like me who grew up with those albums.

Oh, and I forgot one of the most obvious similarities...their vocals are both very distinct and unusual

That's because they stole it from the manga City Hunter:

I thought it was maybe down to fuck, as in

"Hey, are you DTF?"

"I'm MBDTF, I'll hit you up later and let you know."

surely there's some parallel between kanye calling himself a god in yeezus & billy's "god is speaking through me" rant in glass

they both wore black hoodies in those respective eras too
sorry if things just got too true

Ha, I came on here to say that I think Billy is a lot more like Dave Mustaine. STEVE HOLT!

Both had pretty unconventional (but effective) vocal styles that they are completely incapable of now but mix their vocals waaay too loud anyway. The vox on the new Megadeth track...eeesh

Both had rivalries with less interesting, less talented but more accessible bands that they ultimately lost out to. (Nirvana / Metallica).

Megadeths 3rd album was guff while MCIS is quite good tho.

well I think that the megadeth/metallica rivalry is a lot bigger and obviously longer-lasting than the pumpkins/nirvana thing..
