The quality of Real Love sucks, so you have to take it off the list unless you add White Spyder. Best shitty quality song they ever did wrong. (Does that make any sense?)

Here is my ideal track listing for MACHINA.
1) Glass and the Ghost Children (extended version with more excerpts from the story of Glass and portions of Glass’s theme) The total run time would come to about 63:47. That would make a pretty solid album. |

speed kills
speed kills speed kills speed kills speed kills speed kills why wasnt this on machina. i mean fucking crying tree of mercury made it (i know, that was a cheap and easily accesable example of lameness). billy should have given a real middle finger to the music industry and put out a double album. and yeah that long version of glass sounds like fun. by the way i love the production on white spyder. so fucking distorted you can barely hear it. but it works and fits for me. anyone else relate or am i tripping? |

I like the production on white spyder, it fits the aggressiveness of the song.

thanks dude.
i always thought it fit well with the overall overproduced sound of that era, see shattering glass, if there is a god (full), home, real love, etc. i know its not the most commercial stuff but if done well that kind of production can have a beautiful effect (at least to me). sort of like the layers in everlasting gaze. |

Machina is pretty damn good how it stands.
Bunch of quality stuff was left off though. I think as long as we all got to hear it, it's cool. |

I think the idea behind a thread like this, and why I support them, is that while you can make your very own perfect machina with a cd burner, you don't have the glaze of an album and production focus that kinda gives the album songs their feel. Personally, if I was in charge of the album, I would have saved the self-indulgent songs (IE, Everlasting Gaze, Heavy Metal Machine - the damn songs that mention being a rock superstar) for a b-side or sort of bonus side project and just really focused on making the album as sweet and accessible and just damn good as could be. If Billy was ever serious about wanting to "put on the crown" one more time, he certainly had a silly way of doing it.
Personally, I'd have taken a look at all the songs and produced the album ground up with this track listing: 1. Glass and the Ghost Children (chop the song before the voice recording) 2. Glass' Theme (Produce it as rocking as the live cut; Machina II version(s) lacked some of the zest this song deserves) 3. Dross (Glass' Theme goes too well into Dross to not do it) 4. Saturnine (pretty much per Machina II - Judas O one was crap in comparison - it needs to be sung like a hymn) 5. Speed Kills (none of the recordings quite captured the live version, reproduce as close to it as possible) 6. Home (none need be said) 7. Stand Inside Your Love (I think Home goes well into this and the songs sort of compliment one another) 8. White Spyder (to pick up the pace after two slowbies) 9. I of the Mourning (though with the tracks as they are, I almost cringe to put something as tangible in here as a song mentioning radio) 10. Blue Skies Bring Tears (imo, per Machina I, but maybe revamp it a little - I think Machina II version makes a great b-side, but I don't think quite does justice to the immensity of the song) 11. Wound 12. Second Half of Glass and the Ghost Children I like the idea of Soot and Stars being on an album, but I think it works better as a b-side to be honest. Keep the rest of Machina as b-side material. This was the album I was hoping for when I paid my 15 bucks at borders - the bus ride home first listen was a little disheartening. I grew into the album, but it didn't quite do my expectations justice on that first cross your fingers listen. Last edited by TriHell : 07-22-2005 at 05:40 PM. |
