The live version from Atlanta '98 is awesome. Amazing guitarsolos. Still the album version is better though.

You are so incredibly wrong about this.... Blank Page (and especially the line you mentioned) is amazing lyrically... The image that line conjures up is just heartbreaking.

Where he says, "You are forgotten" somewhere near the end, I thought for the longest time he said, "You Awful Goddess", so the moment I found out I had misheard I put the line into one of my songs. I get a lot of my lyrics that way. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, the line really is, "take a day, plant some trees"...
Here's a suggestion: Hit the hay, paint my knees ...Think about it. |

I like the live version from 98 better, but I guess I'm in the minority. Hmm, I think I'm gonna listen to my 3 disc, adore live album now.

I'm with you there, the live version kicks the hell out of the album one - especially Atlanta 98. I was'nt fond of the lounge room Machina version though. Kinda cheesy.

that adore tour version just strips it of all the haunting beauty and makes it another for martha. i mean i still like it but it's got nothing on the original.
the machina one blows though. |

ok...let me backtrack and say this, I love Adore, I adore Adore. It is the album that I listen to the most but I just don't think that line conjures up any great images (same can be said about this verse : "got dressed, drove the state line
looking for you at the five and dime stop sign told me stay at home told me you were not alone" but thats for another thread on another day...) but if these lyrics are genius and I am just not getting it then one of you mensa card carrying members explain to me the signifigance of "take a day, plant some trees". |

that could be some of Billy's best lyrics ever, that whole song, and especially those lines together at the end are representative of such a moving and large notion (or concept) and you obviously missed out on...

well then what is it, apparently I missed out on it but not a single one of you have yet to even give a glimpse of insight onto what it means...if you haven't started second guessing yourself yet now is the time to start, otherwise give a valid response.

Their very similar to many of Billy's lyrics in the sense that they paint an emotion using lyrics, you can feel what he is trying to say, even when he uses only abstract metaphores and symbolism.
blank page was all the rage never meant to say anything in bed I was half dead tired of dreaming of rest got dressed, drove the state line looking for you at the five and dime stop sign told me stay at home told me you were not alone blank page was all the rage never meant to hurt anyone in bed I was half dead tired of dreaming of rest you haven't changed, you're still the same may you rise as you fall you were easy, you are forgotten you are the ways of my mistakes I catch the rainfall through the leaking roof that you had left behind you remind me of that leak in my soul the rain falls, my friends call leaking rain on the phone take a day, plant some trees may they shade you from me may your children play beneath blank page was all the rage never meant to say anything in bed I was half dead tired of dreaming of rest got dressed, drove the state line looking for you at the five and dime but there I was picking pieces up you are a ghost of my indecision no more, little girl |

Since the song is about his ex wife, I would say that "Take a day, plant some trees, may they shade you from me" is telling her to rebuild her life without him in such a way that he cannot get in.
Yeah, really, these are great lyrics, fuck you. |

how do you know the song is about his ex wife, can you give us a link to an article, an interview, a qoute, an audio clip etc...
Even so I still think that this line blows and that he could have used some better words...he sounds like he is hawking an ad for the aurbor day foundation. |

Dude, what is your problem? I think it is rather obvious that it is about regret and past mistakes. Running from the past, things like that. Read the lyrics.
