see what i mean? americans are tramps. so easy.
where i'm at ladies are horrifically arrogant and difficult. like, just getting ONE single introduction chat with somebody ON A DATING SITE is so goddamn difficult.

i think the problem is all this tinder culture has caused people to enjoy idly scrolling through thousands of profiles more than the real deal, of having to "settle" and meet just one person, who is naturally not the ultimate fusion of every fantasy you've ever had of a romantic interest

i know i'm bitter, fuck off

I did not realize the way online dating, or at least tinder, changes the way you see people. It's total sensory overload. I've seen pictures of so many women sometimes I can't even tell if they are attractive to me or not. It's really weird. I read that people who have a smaller pool of prospective mates are more likely to be in happy, successful relationships than people with more choices.

as with everything else the age of internet has brought along, things got out of hand and what was once a novelty that had upsides (allowing shy people to overcome their social barriers) has become a monstrous alienating industry that essentially only pushes people further apart.

jeez i'm really in a bad mood lately, i need to stop venting. i mean i do get matches and chat with girls trying to make stuff happen and all that stuff, but it all feels very lonely to me. maybe it's because it's all the more searing considering i (sort of) recently came out of a very long serious relationship

it does feel very alienating. it's also very weird because you start to see patterns in the kinds of things people write about themselves or the kinds of pictures they take and it becomes this big amorphous wave of meme phrases and movie quotes. I'm so tired of hearing about how people like brunch, coffee, travel, and bourbon. also pictures of tigers and pictures of machu picchu.

what's worse though is that i can't play this game. like, i'm so bad at presenting myself or writing a short synopsis about myself. i'm too self aware and it always comes out terrible

I've read studies where, when people have more choices, they end up dissatisfied. For example, you pick some hat you like out of 10 hats. You're told that after two weeks you can keep the same hat, or change the hat. Or you're not given that option. People not given the option to change end up happier with their decision, presumably because they are already done completely with the decision process and committed to a certain hat.

Can't find the study but it exists. Also, people show interesting patterns after they've chosen certain things, for example if they choose certain characteristics as desirable, they are more likely to say they have those traits. And the more choices we have, the less time we have to critically evaluate all of them, so we end up narrowing it down by something like price, or brand name, without investigating it further. Really works well when only a few companies, for example, make 1000 cereals. https://www.ted.com/talks/barry_schw...ce?language=en

every time I eat at a restaurant I think about how smaller menus are better for this reason. too many choices, too many paths, and there is just too much second-guessing and doubt about one's decisions

I was going to meet up with tinder girl tonight but she is tired and cancelled. I am ridiculously anxious about actually meeting someone from the internet. I haven't gone on a real first date with a girl in like 6 years. I don't know how I ever used to do this

Totally, except this one time they had breakfast at lunch and I just ate a ton of french toast. They have a ton of variety but none of it is actually better than decent. I've been maybe 5 times

There are also coke dates if you're willing to pay an extra 100 a month.

then unmatched me a few hours later

yeah I'm 27. This woman was only 21. I just will never understand the way people act when they are interacting with potential romantic interests. If she wasn't interested in going out why didn't she just say that? If she was and then changed her mind, why didn't she just tell me honestly instead of randomly ghosting me? I know this kind of thing is super common and not exclusively a problem with me or something, I just don't get it and it is discouraging.

We weren't even explicitly going out on "a date" I don't think, we had mostly been talking about how we didn't know anyone around here and it would be cool to meet new people, which makes it even more confusing, like maybe I did do something? Why wouldn't she at least want to meet me in person?
