does anyone notice the massive personality change in Billy during the Siamese Dream era? he seems very unpleasant prior to 1993. also he sung with a deeper voice for some reason.

i notice the voice thing
peoples voices change as they learn to sing
the personality aspect probably has to do with the drugs

I recall reading some years ago that Billy said he was deliberately trying to sing in a deeper register during that era (and in anything even preceding Smashing Pumpkins, really.) To me it sounds much more naturalistic than the high-gain nasality he projected in the following years, but I guess that is not so.

I'm puzzled at the comment that he seems "very unpleasant prior to 1993", however. It doesn't really strike me that way. Does his personalty just cycle through periods of being pretty cool about things and then being a prickly asshole?

i love how mick is still convinced the only reason this board exists is to pay homage to the greatest band in the universe

seems to me like he might have been self-conscious about his voice so he made it sound deeper than it really was. It wasn't really until recording SD where he seemed to be more comfortable with it (see: Rocket rehearsal demo on the SD reissue) and stopped giving a fuck.

He came off like an asshole to me (more-so than usual), like saying that rock is dead in the Gish DVD, then a few years later shouting "ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?". I remember seeing one acoustic performance where he stopped playing and told D'arcy he couldn't pretend she wasn't fucking things up. Dunno, really. Usually Bill has a sense of humor and is very outspoken but during those years it's just nonexistent. I guess that can be attributed to the fame, when it comes down to it though.
