The greatest band ever
I'm 44 and I went thru Zep stages, Floyd stages, I enjoyed Metallica, GNR, U2, Black Sabbath and many more but I can't find a band that has given me as much as the Pumpkins.
Metal, hard rock, pop, slow stuff and taking me somewhere Ive never been is why I love them. By the way I love the new stuff, but anyways I found this online. Now I'm sure you all have seen it but it reminded me just how good the SP are and how much I truly have gotten out of their music. http://youtu.be/Ba6ixsVzbiM Last edited by smashingschnauz : 11-28-2014 at 11:01 PM. |

Depeche Mode is the greatest band ever. The Pumpkins aren't even the 10th best band ever.

He is a Gen Xer so it's not surprising that Metallica and Guns and Roses are some of his favorite bands. His taste is horrible but not at all surprising.

Where did the 'Graceful Swans of Never' thing originally air? Was it on TV? Has a DVD leak of that thing ever surfaced? Would love that in the highest resolution possible.

If youd asked me in 2001 i'd have said yeah.
Now they've been relegated far down the list. Though honestly i don't really think anyone should ever try to claim any band is the best ever. Once i got older i realised there as no such thing as a perfect band. Not even such a thing as a close to being perfect band. There is one thing i will say though, 1950's to now is the best ever era for rock music........... Try to prove me wrong. |

Sorry I forgot all these other blues rock bands that give away both my age and how narrow my musical tastes are

I only just discovered the Smashing Pumpkins a few weeks ago when I accidentally stumbled across the song "One and All" on Youtube (hence my weird user name) I am quite young, early 20's so I wasn't alive in the 90's but One and All and Tiberius (which I discovered the next day) just sounded so brilliant and unlike any other music out there I had ever heard before so I am having the pleasure of discovering all of their back catalogue now. I have heard vaguely of the band and a couple of their songs in the past but I didn't know which band sung them or anything. I have researched them and their history and am listening right from the beginning and am going to buy an album and wait a month before I buy the next one. At the moment I am on Gish and that album alone has rapidly transformed them into my favourite band by far and I still have another 8 - 9 Albums to go. From what I have read, Siamese Dream seems to be a fan favourite so I am really looking forward to that. As it stands the only other songs of theirs I have heard on future albums are Today, Disarm, Tonight Tonight, Zero and Bullet with Butterfly Wings. I am dying to buy Siamese Dream now but I am going to be patient and fully appreciate and enjoy each album before I move onto the next so I can have a great 8 - 9 months of music instead of just rushing it!!

You should definitely move on from gish as soon as possible. It's only slightly better than Oceania and Zeitgeist.

Are you serious? Gish is pretty much the best SP album.

Ok will post an update in here once I have got through the albums and then finish with Monuments. To be honest so far all of Gish is better than One and All and Tiberius but I do love those songs and One and All will probably always be a special song to me as it is will now be classed as the song that made me discover them. I had heard BWBW before a few years ago but it didn't pull me in for some reason although now I don't know why as it is an incredible song - for some reason One and All just sucked me right in. I am from the UK so I hardly ever hear anything about this band. I am also going to listen to Billys solo album and Zwan stuff in chronological order. Have never been this excited about discovering an older band based on what I have heard so far.

Just stick with Gish, Siamese Dream, Pisces, MCIS, Adore, Machina. That will keep you occupied for a long time.

Pisces isn't on my list for some reason but just looked into that and seems like it was some sort of B-Sides albums, looks like it was pretty popular so thanks, might have missed that one.

Definitely get Pisces and Aeroplane. They're like behind the scenes of SD and MCIS respectively
