I concur. Some of my favorite singers are women and/or played an instrument in one of my favorite bands. Also, the indelible influence that some of these women singers/musicians had over bands in the past 40-50 years is quite evident if you get past all the machismo bullshit in rock music.

Siouxsie is a great example of a highly underrated singer/songwriter who is still influencing bands. I'd say a high percentage of bands I see have ripped her off in some form or another; not only her singing style and stage presence/look, but musically as well.

Smith: No. I wore lipstick at school. I copied my lipstick from my mum, not Siouxsie, although there are similarities between the two. I've worn make-up to varying degrees since I was 13 but I do wear less now than I used to. I started developing the smeared lipstick look when we were doing Pornography.

There are fashion similarities between a lot of fringe/punk/alternative players of the late 70s and early 80s. Beyond that her "image" has always been her own. And Smith has projected a very different persona, whether on stage or in public. And his vocal style is unique as well. I wouldn't say he took any of that from her.

I remember reading another interview where he admitted to being a big fan and that he began dressing like her because of it. I'll try and find it.

its a known pattern that when bands become super famous they stop giving props to their up-and-coming contemporaries at the time when they were still up and coming.
