Question Best 10 Year Span in Music

If you could only listen to one ten year span of music what would choose?

I'd probably pick '72-82'.

we could probably make this a little more interesting by adding a top-ten list of bands that led us our decision. i'm kind of lazy to do that myself, though.

for me it's not so much the bands as it is to the social climate as well.

55-65 to me represents the birth of rock and roll and soul music and then it all being sold down the river by the white man for $$$. i listen to records from 55-59 and they still sound completely dangerous to me. audio juvenile delinquency. taboo subject matter. coded languages. slang. sex.

and a lot of it still maintains that level of secrecy through the giant boom of homemade record labels and small distribution. this was a period when the major labels did not run the market any longer.

everything that shaped modern western music imo is found within this decade.

i don't recall that thread (thankfully, apparently.)

but a decade (span of ten years) couldn't ******* both '55 and '65 in their entirety.

77-87

90% of all music i listen to right there.

Actually i could probably do even better with 1979-1989 even if in general the late 80's weren't so great but there's two or three really good records that ending in 87 leaves out.

There was also grunge, Pumpkins, Radiohead, classic hip-hop, Britpop, good electronic music, US punk revival, and a bunch of stuff I don't remember at the moment.

That's a very good point. In fact, I'll edit my post (not so much for Gish but for Nevermind).
