man if there's one place i don't have to justify collecting vinyl it is definitely the netphoria music board

everyone has hobbies and/or wastes money on dumb bullshit; who gives an actual fuck? we are literally all going to die one day, some people like to enjoy things.

I have a small (well...50 or so) collection of Fantasy themed figures. Clearly this is a much better use of my money than vinyls....

(To be fair though i shoplifted more than half of them. Stupid shit to risk getting caught for i agree. A guy's gotta have his dumb law breaking hobbies.)

er, well one is a (usually) required image for a possibly substantial work of art and the other is a poster for mostly useless status updates

as for this vinyl thing, I'm actually starting to enter the territory of "having vinyl but not listening to it" on account of I feel like the equipment I'm using just doesn't... cut the difference so to speak. and I'm not going to dish out on stuff just for that right now since my money's going into music production not consumption atm

in other words, expect a possible big malsy ebay "haul off" in the not-so-distant future

true that. I also like to fill my vinyl collection for artists I like, although often there is stuff I'd like just cause it's really rare or has a nice vinyl color, or format. I'm still sorting out two boxes of 80s vinyl from the guy I bought my current record player of, for 20€ it was a rate deal! On the other hand I try not to keep too much. Too much possession is always a burden, first of all, you won't listen to a specific vinyl for a long time, and also it costs a lot of space and is a hassle when you have to move. Right now I'm at a point where I am happy with the amount of records I already have. First I'd like to sell some before buying new ones. Records really dear to me I'll keep, that's for sure.

Plus, have some friends over, they can look through my shit and I can throw something on for them. Much more interactive than "here let me shuffle through my iPod for that one song you wanted to hear". Dollars to donuts I can find and put on a record faster than someone could scroll through their digital warehouse.

https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/i...VA6490FQqAnIbi https://s3.amazonaws.com/img.deadfor...7379903162.jpg

i think i sold the 2nd copy because i got tired of it reminding me how i couldn't find and shouldnt have sold the first LP.

alas - now i have both again.

Now, if you even have a passing interest in a band, you can look up everything about them on youtube and wikipedia and yourface, digest it all and shit them out in 15 minutes and then move on to the next thing to consume. There is no mystery or imagination at all.

I remember hearing Soma on the radio right when Siamese Dream came out and the DJ said he thought it was cool and I just sat there listening to it thinking "what the fuck is this?" and I thought about it for a week until the album came out wondering what rock orchestra could have made this music.

Then I go to the record store when it came out and bought it and looked at the pictures and liner notes for hours while I listened to it over and over. I couldn't believe four people made all that sound. And they looked so weird. And that's all I had for months about them. Just imagined the rest.
Yeah but I still did this in the 2000's just with the CD. It was all new to me except after I finished SD I had MCIS and Adore and Machina and a thousand interviews and live performances to go through.

It was an amazing experience

Not sure that being able to google the band's favorite food or whatever really changed anything

The Bilinda Butchers - Heaven repress

It's been a long time coming; I grabbed it on pre-order because originals are going for ridic amounts on Discogs. That was back in January, before I realized I don't have the patience for pre-orders. Finally came yesterday, along with some goodies, one of which is a bag of green tea stamped with the record label logo.
