KoL has some good tracks on it, but overall it doesn't sound to me like it has much overarching vision compared to the majesty of In Rainbows. It sounds more like the band recorded some songs in a few weeks and threw em together on one album regardless of how they fit together.

It's definitely not as experimental or bleep bleep bloop as Kid A or Amnesiac, but I agree with teh b0lly that it sounds small. I'm kind of tired of anything minimalist from them as well. I want something that sounds huge and expansive

If you believe the whispers about it, it certainly seems like they're thinking bigger than they were during the KoL sessions. I think that'd be a wise move, from both a creative and a sales standpoint. Time to be a little less self-indulgent and get back to making great Radiohead songs. I honestly don't know if I could tolerate another aimless, go nowhere effort ala Tomorrow's Modern Boxes. Yes I know that's a Yorke solo album but I just get this sense that stuff akin to what's on that album is the only kind of music Yorke and Co wants to make anymore, and it's getting a bit tiresome. I'm not expecting or hoping for them to turn into another U2, but just give us something...ANYTHING that resembles pep. Shit, I'd take another In Rainbows.

honestly i don't think they went so minimalistic on KoL because they wanted to indulge in artistic snobbery - i think they defaulted to it because they were, best case scenario, really bored and didn't feel like making another record, or bad case scenario - almost split up.

to me it sounds like thom taking reigns and pulling 60-70% of the load himself.
i have no info to base this on, of course, but the hunch i am getting for this upcoming record is that they feel more rejuvenated, and actually seek to make a meaningful statement this time.

People would have a completely different opinion about TKOL if only this video never happened

KoL is not a bad album, but it feels much smaller and less impactful than In Rainbows. IR Disc 2 is better than KoL.

because it was only a matter of time

In Rainbows > Ok Computer > The Bends > Kid A > KoL > Amnesiac > Pablo Honey > HTTT

Man

There, There and Scatterbrain are both songs that have moved me to tears I don't understand why nobody else gets this album

I've heard In Rainbows a hundred or so times and right now can only recall like 3 of the songs. I actually remember more of the Bsides which are better than whats on the album imo

Bangars and Mash is a jam

HTTT is almost impossible for me to get through and I may have only listened from start to finish once or twice. Of course it still has good songs; it's a Radiohead album. There There, 2+2, Wolf at the Door are great.

King of Limbs is cool for executing on what it set out to be...disconnected, messy, and rather uncomfortable. Like, from the get-go, Bloom is a good song, yet not very satisfying because it just feels wrong. Codex also just sounds...dreary. Dark. But also morbid. I like the album, but I also don't really like it, if that makes sense.

Hail to the Thief is still their weakest record. It's overlong and bloated, with no identity. There There is a fucking jam though. But Pablo Honey, as weak as it is, has more payoff than HTTT.

I love Hail to the Thief. "The Gloaming" is great. "Wolf at the Door" too. I should stop naming songs because I'm just going to name all of them. I probably usually enjoy In Rainbows more because I love how it has that jazziness but I also really enjoy HTTT and sometimes it's the album I crave most. I don't really have a ranking system of which album is best, I just have different Radiohead album moods at different times.

Well, actually my ranking system is 1. Every album that isn't Pablo Honey 2. Pablo Honey

Also, am I the only one who's never really thought of Radiohead as a sad band? I mean, I understand they have sombre songs, but they are also really energetic and a lot of the "sad" ones, I find more neurotic/spastic than depressing.

Sadder ones are probably "Let Down" and "Videotape."

yah ph i really don't even consider as a radiohead album. to me they started with the bends, which is an awesome record.

i don't know about them being a sad band. they have sad songs, but most of their tunes, whether sad or not, are dark.

so, yeah.

I used to like Kid A. It just doesn't do much for me anymore. Same with Hail to the Thief. I probably listened to HTTT every day for months when it first came out. But now I just don't care for it.
