yeah upon viewing that film repeatedly for 20 years, his accent is at the very least inconsistent throughout the film. sometimes better, sometimes he slips. sometimes he does nail it though.

fun fact: both actors were totally hungover for the scene in question, which explains why mcgregor looks like shit and why "sloppy jonny" is messing up the scottish accent

That makes sense....

I just think next to a native speaker his speech seems too slow and deliberate. That kills any put-on accent, I guess.

The Scottish accent is a thing of beauty. I probably need to go back and watch Braveheart and have a really good laugh. Does he even bother? Or does he use an American accent despite the fact he is from Australia. Oh man. It has to be done. Braveheart tonight.

genuine scottish accent is gorgeous, i agree.

perhaps that is why i had ticks of murderous rage when i had to listen to Ewan McGregor absolutely fucking slaughter it on Trainspotting 2

I haven't seen that. Ewan McGregor is actually Scottish though isn't he? Did he lose his accent while playing other roles and then have to put one back on for Trainspotting 2?

How unbelievably shitty. That would give me the rage, too. I can't bring myself to watch Trainspotting 2. I didn't watch the first one when it came out, not for a few years. It sort of hit too close to home and I'm not too sure about how much of this one will be the same.

You're not missing much by skipping Trainspotting 2
There is a better T2 out there.

yeah, he totally lost it and kinda tried to hack it anyway for T2, but the result was godawful. he was by far the worst actor of all four guys to reprise his role. truth be told, i never liked that guy for a second in any filmed footage ever, barring the original Trainspotting. but boy was he brilliant on that. gah you know i kinda want you to watch it just so i can see you rip on it. if you wanna see my version it's in buried somewhere in my movie thread

Big Fish is probably the best Tim Burton movie, other than maybe Beetlejuice

No love for the two Eddies?

I think I'd put Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice on more or less equal footing. The rest, I could take or leave.

I used to get Ethan Hawke and Ewan McGregor confused.

This has been my contribution to this thread.

Ed Wood is Burton's best, by a billion light years.

Thumbs up

Home? I have no home. Hunted, despised, living like an animal. The jungle, is my home. And I will show the world that I can be its master!
