I was actually fine with getting banned because the truth is, I was sorta feeling like I outgrew the Pumpkins and didn't really have much to offer in regards to dialogue about them...

But now there's this GnR tour and I'm actually stoked about something regarding SP again for the first time since maybe when Jimmy returned in 2015, so it's only fitting that it correlates with what seems will be the end of my stink in Netphoria haha.

C'est la vie

Yeah, I'll probably see the setlist and be all bitter again.

Still a helluva pairing and probably the smartest management move that the Pumpkins have made in awhile

And yet, probably the dumbest management move that GNR have made in a while.

Guns n Roses takes at least 4 hours to go on stage, the pumpkins could play a double set with no worries.

A friend of mine who now works at Live Nation (used to work with him at a smaller promotion company) told me this deal apparently came down to the wire. GN'R has approached Corgan before, and he always felt Pumpkins should not have to open for anyone. I guess the money was too big to turn down (or the rest of the band talked sense into Billy).

Smashing Pumpkins have been out of the arena sphere since the 1990s. I can still see Guns N' Roses as an arena draw (even if they don't sell out), but certainly not a stadium tour like this. Otherwise, I'd say your assessment is right on the money. Corgan played his biggest hand in bringing Iha back to the band, and they limped through an arena tour, eventually having to settle back on co-headlining amphitheater tours like he had to in 2015. Guns N' Roses did huge business for four years with Slash and Duff re-joining, but they have exhausted almost every market and still have no new product to interest fans.

Dude the whole point of the joke was that SP are not an arena band.

Your logic is fuzzy.

"There are those bands that are essentially coming back only to make money - playing their old albums, and maybe somewhere in the back of their minds they're thinking there might be a future. I am not in that business, obviously. I condemn anybody who's in that business but doesn't admit (he's) in that business. When Soundgarden came back and they just played their old songs, great. I was a fan of Soundgarden, but call it for what it is. They're just out there to have one more round at the til." - WPC 2012

It was easy for Corgie to say that, because in 2012, no one was paying him to play the hits. Now Cornell and everyone else is dead, so SP have become a premier nostalgia act just by default/virtue of being one of the last standing.

Not to mention I see a son of Minneapolis, Tommy Stinson (The Replacements) was only along for the ride 1998–2014.

Kanye and Ted Nugent should join in as well. Hell, let’s have Gene Simmons too. All the assholes.

I know a lot of you don’t like GNR, but I actually do, they were my favorite band for a long time (although of course SP was in a different tier when both bands were at their best). So I’m kind of irritated at this because I would THOROUGHLY enjoy this if both bands had their complete classic lineups. In the past I refused to see GNR without Izzy and Steven Adler but now I feel like I might as well. However I refuse to see SP without D’Arcy (I will never support how Billy treats her. He has to apologize and let her back for me to see them even though SP is my favorite band ever). So now I’m not gonna see GNR either unless D’Arcy miraculously comes back. Oh well, there’s plenty of other bands to see. I’ll still continue to wait for D’Arcy to come back.

They opened for GNR in the early 90s did they not?

I remember Billy saying they got booed off the stage opening for GNR in 1992. I don't think they opened for them much, maybe just a few dates? A guy on the Consequence of Sound facebook post about this tour said he saw them in Oklahoma opening for GNR and they got booed because Billy said something about being in the bible belt and that the band were satan worshippers. Lol

Imagine if you told Billy in 91 he’d be opening for GnR in 2020
Billy would’ve killed himself then and there

Smashing Pumpkins and Guns n Roses are just both lumped into the same music category now: "Oldies"

Pretty sure ninsp was aware. I think he meant that if you told Bill in 92' that his band would still be the opening band for GNR thirty years later he wouldn't be happy about that.
