Yeah, I listen to those two back to back on occasion.

Slightly nervous about new ATDI. Refused surprised me with Freedom. I'll be curious to see if they can pull it off without Jim Ward.

seems like the mars volta train ran out of steam so they restarted the old brand, unless the reception is overwhelmingly positive i'll be making a hard pass just like i did after 30 seconds of "francofique"

Freedom definitely wasn't Shape Pt. 2 but I thought it was pretty great just the same.

It has this weird hevay-metal/stadium-rock vibe that shouldn't work but somehow does.

it was that bad & the reception was poor & i love shape of punk to come and don't wish to tarnish it with "man this band actually sucks and this was an accident" thoughts you know like the smashing pumpkins

i also didn't hear the new pixies record. if the overwhelming question i have about a new record from an old band is "why?" then i'm probably going to hard pass, there's only so much time in your life

But I mean...30 seconds plus going by reviews? You're bound to miss out on some stuff you may actually like with that attitude, not that you really even care. Just saying. There's been a lot of stuff in the past where if I had gone by first impression/other people's impressions, I would have missed out on something I enjoyed.

Also, new Pixies wasn't entirely without its merits. Classic Masher has been stuck in my head since October. I didn't think it was a terribly strong album overall, but there's folks here who swear by it.

& fan reaction & critical aggregate yes...its how you boil the shit away so you can spend more time with good stuff that you like instead of mediocre stuff that you kinda sorta like okay i guess

uh not really, i assure you i find lots of things to like

yeah i'd rather listen to something else than the new money cd from a band fading from glory that has no good buzz about it whatsoever idk man don't lecture me about how i listen to music, you can do your thing where you listen to every single album by a handful of artists you listened to 10 years ago and i'll do my thing where i listen to a lot of everything & especially need to know my history kk? thx. i figure there's only so many minutes in a life, & i don't need to waste them wondering if francofique is trash or not when i have literally a hundered other things to listen to

new New Pornographers is pretty good, but tbh I have never listened to an album by them all the way through previously. mostly I just like Neko Case

Humanz by Gorillaz is a great example of an album that can have a lot of really great songs but not be a very good album.

T-lish I love getting stuck into Elph but there's a heap of sonic variance/growth from Directions To See A Ghost through Death Song

I heard a Black Angels song in GTA V and thought is was p. cool so I downloaded the album and every song is basically the same song. Later I heard a song off their next album and it was still the same song.

I haven't heard all their music so I can't intelligently say, but they do seem to have a lot of songs which are the same as each other

Also just realised that Young Team and F#A# both turn 20 this year. Explosions In The Sky made a good album last year. Is it time for Post-rock to come back?

Did anyone make it all the way through the Mount Eerie album? I didn't. Not cause it was bad, just cause it's actually far too sad to listen to, even for me.
