serious question: how could anyone pick "one" or "ten" or "twenty" favourite bands?

that seems way too small a number, when you think of all the good music that's actually out there...

I don't know that I have a favorite band anymore, but Jimmy Eat World, Minus The Bear and The Mountain Goats are groups I can listen to on any day of the week and enjoy the fuck out of. If I'm shuffling my iPod and a track from one of these three comes up, it's not getting skipped.

Seriously. I'm not about to stream music, so iPod is still the best and most convenient choice for me.

Also, I now realize that "enjoying the fuck out of" is a total fuzzyism and I apologize.

Yeah, I don't really care about that. They're one of the few bands that was in heavy rotation in my teens that I can still enjoy just as much today.

I mean, come on. Fucking Clarity. I realize it came out the year you were born probably, but it's still pretty good for dad rock.

Also, those who post on a Smashing Pumpkins forum in 2016 shouldn't throw stones.

We're all equally lame.

Am I? It seemed apt. Like, if you're going to post on a message board that looks like it's stuck in 2001 about a washed-up band from the '90s, you really have no room to criticize anyone's taste.

Bleed American is great, but it hasn't aged as well as Clarity and Futures, if you ask me.

I've never listened to those, it's been a while since I gave Bleed American a full spin, so you're probably right...

I was with you on Jimmy Eat World, but Third Eye Blind? Do they even have anything decent aside from Semi Charmed Kinda Life? I downloaded one of their "new" albums(which was actually probably 4 or 5 years ago) just for the helluvit and aside from the first song the album was garbage.

This is probably in my favorite top 25 songs

This song instantly pulled at my heartstrings and I've never tired of it. The video definitely detracts from it a bit though. Also really love Sweetness and Hear You Me

What does this even mean

Posting on an old message board equals bad tastes?

Jimmy Eat World has some good songs for sure. Saw em open for Green Day years ago, they were great

I only know that one Third Eye Blind album but some of the songs are pretty good and well crafted. I really like Narcolepsy. Motorcycle Driveby was the song I listened to all the time to feel horrible when my first girlfriend dumped me when I was 16.

Third Eye Blind has a couple good albums. Their self titled album is by far their best. Motorcycle Drive By, Jumper, How's It Gonna Be - lots of great songs off that album. As their career kept going quality seemed to decrease, but both Blue and Out of the Vein have decent songs on them.

Sounds like you downloaded Ursa Major, which was pretty much a massive turd. It was their Teargarden. They have tons of good stuff outside of the singles (personally, I can't even stomach most of their hits anymore). The aforementioned Motorcycle Drive-By & Narcolepsy, also The Background, God Of Wine, 1000 Julys, Slow Motion (with vocals), Crystal Baller, etc. A lot of good material. I would even go to bat for their newest one, Dopamine. It's a massive improvement over Ursa.

I dunno. I wouldn't strong-arm anyone into liking them (same with JEW). Either you do or you don't. But if you liked Semi Charmed Life, you might like some of their other stuff even better.
