Z-grade horror soundtracks are what got me into synth/ambient/noise initially

Most of the foreign stuff I have or know of is from the 70s. 80s tends to be more American. My favorite part of slogging through a 'terrible' horror movie is finding out the name of the guy who did the music at the end, usually some 'no-name' library musician.

there used to be a handful of amazing blogs dedicated to unreleased horror soundtracks

my problem is that i am a bit of a condition Nazi, and a lot of them looked pretty beaten up. but you're right, archives can often hold the best stuff

have you seen what Ron Lessard (RRR) is doing with his incredible tape collection?

you should see it dude, my fuck. Xpressway, early American Tapes...oh yeah, and pretty much every self-released industrial tape that saw the light of day in the late-70's/1980's

dude could become a millionaire if he put these on Discogs.

not at all

he's posted photos of tapes from that cube every day on his facebook page since August. besides, you can tell the Recycled Tapes releases from the spine.

i think the only things i've ever ordered from ron's label were caroliner records a few times. this would be around 2003. i saw ron play live once touring with john wiese around 2005 when magical crystal blah came out.

slightly back on topic: I remember american tapes releasing a handful of unreleased zombie movie soundtracks via vhs dubs.

i think the only list will be compiled when Berklee gets it - part of the deal was that they have to archive it all.

i see a lot of that " loner damaged synth noise " aesthetic coming out a lot in the recent "distroid" genre/fad of music. personally i never fell heavily into that genre beyond "corpse on horseback" but do you know anything or what are your thoughts about distroid? i can understand the aesthetic but it seems difficult to harness which is why i never fell into power electronics etc.

well i pretty much think that Dilloway is a god - early 00's Wolf Eyes aside, his solo stuff is nails. i've never heard the term "distroid" before - who falls under that category?

it's a super new thing - but it plays off of early solo PE type characteristics mixed with modern everyone-is-a-dj laptop music
