Rest of the set tonight was also rock, rock solid.

Love how they're picking these random albums, too. So what's next? Logically, it would be Binaural? That or Riot Act seems FAR less likely to me.

I bet it has to do with a vinyl remaster/reprint of those two albums specifically.

Makes total sense - hadn't thought of that one.

if you told me a week ago that in three shows i would hear no code at one and yield at another i'd have laughed it off. i'm a pretty lucky fan.

i do have to think this is setting the stage for the no code/yield box set. i would guess they would be included as bonus cd's, with the extra vinyl in the set probably being live on two legs.

I think its definitely for a no code/yield reissue. Sell your vinyls now while you can still get cash. it would have been cool to see. I probably like those two albums the most, at least lyrically.

For anybody who's interested - FLAC audience recording of PJ's set at Bridge School last night.

Not my recording, just posting on a non stupid file transfer site.

https://www.yousendit.com/download/U...SWVCTWsxWjhUQw

Fun little set, but am glad I didn't make the trek from SLC out to Mountain View this year.

So what will Friday's announcement be, a South America tour? Any shot of a few NE dates?

Time to kick this back up to the main page with the pending release of GIGATON.

Haven't listened to the new single yet: waiting until to hear it in full, just like the good ol' days.

That said - "Dance of the Clairvoyants" is a VERY Corgan-esque title. If it were a SP song, what word would be in the ellipses behind it?

I revisited Lightning Bolt the other day to see if it was actually as bad as I remembered from its release, and it is pretty fucking bad

Backspacer is definitely not like their best album or anything, but it brought some rock and it was nice and short. This one feels long to listen to, the songs are too sappy, etc. etc. oh well. basically just disappointing to wait 4 years for an album and have it sound like outtakes from the last album.
lmao it actually seems I found it to be much worse now that I wasn't trying really hard to like it

Question

So if I've only listened to Ten, Vs., and Yield (not sure why I skipped a couple), a very long time ago, is it worth trying anything others after that? Or is this a Corgan-type situation? I liked all three FWIW.

I'm still bitter about July 1995. My Dad had multiple coworkers on multiple phones to get 2 tickets to the Phoenix show and they were successful. I was thrilled to be spending another summer in the desert and seeing one of my favorite bands at the time with my Dad. Looked forward to the show for months. This is back when they were trying to tour without using Ticketbastard which I fully supported that fight. Three days before the show the remaining dates of the tour were canceled and postponed to the upcoming fall. I was back in the Midwest by then so my Dad took his then girlfriend to the show instead. I know they were fighting the good fight but I was an upset and deeply gutted teenager. Soon after I lost interest and focused that energy into one of my other favorite bands, Los Smashing Pumpkins (along with Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and other bands).

I tried to get into No Code and Yield but that just never happened. I know it's trite to say but the first 3 albums will always be where it's at for me with this band. I was especially close to Vitalogy. The first two albums sound a bit dated to me now but there's still great songs on both. Hearing live versions some day would be cool but I can no longer get excited about this band.

If you like those three, you've arguably hit some of the high points. It's not as drastic of a Corgan like situation, but it's comparable at least for me in the fact that they are my favorite bands, so I find things to like in all of the releases, even if they're not as good as "the old stuff" and I recognize that, I still find songs and parts I really like on the new ones.

Lightning Bolt - their most recent - is a good example. Far better than say, a Monuments or SAOSBV1LPNPNFNS (hell yes, been too long since I've been able to bust that acronym out) but it's similar to say a Zeitgeist, in the fact that you can tell it's the same band with lots of the same pieces - but it's a world away from Siamese Dream or in Pearl Jam's case, Ten or Vitalogy. Twenty years, lots of money, kids and homes in Hawaii happen and you're not gonna write raw shit like Soma or Rearviewmirror. It just doesn't work like that.

To speak to the other two posts here re: LB - I really like some of that album. Getaway is a killer opener. Sirens is good at what it is is going for. Title track is noteworthy. Infallible always feels like one I'm getting ready to skip, then end up remembering that it's not bad. Pendulum is different for them and is a breath of fresh air. Most of Side B other than that doesn't do much for me. As said, all told, it's inferior to Backspacer.

No Code - their 4th - is my personal favorite, but it definitely has it's highs and lows. Maybe like saying that "Adore" is your favorite SP album. It's it's own thing, but not as different from the catalog as Adore is. If I was gonna explore elsewhere, I'd go there, then would go to Riot Act to get off into the weeds a bit.

No Code is my fav PJ album. Riot Act also has some great songs.

I also love their Neil Young album Mirror Ball.

No Code and Vitology have aged well for me and stood the test of time.

The rest lingers in buttrock territory

I heard a clip of a new song and my immediate reaction was “garage band trying to be muse” which is very bad.

Vitalogy absolutely holds up though. And ten of course. Haven’t listened to vs in a very long time.

i like the new song, and that they've shared how collaborative it was when writing it. hopefully that means good things for the record.

doing the san diego and la run (again). those shows, san diego especially, have tended to be some of the better shows on tour since avocado came out.

this is probably unpopular, but I still think Ten is their most solid album front to back. everything after Ten has songs I want to skip
