Lame guitar question
How do you mechanically play the Cherub Rock intro the way Corgan does, strumming straight 16th notes but alternating between the open E and the octave chord? Like I can see he's muting the low E with his thumb (?) but that doesn't seem to account for all the sounds
Right now I basically play it the way D'arcy does which is hard to do fast Last edited by Ram27 : 03-22-2017 at 10:59 AM. |

I think with that octave chord that's held longer than the other, he doesn't strum on the upstroke, giving it that shuffle rhythm.

I remember learning it the right way years ago. You leave the open E on certain upstrokes, but also muting it in other parts.

this is correct. The hand keeps moving in the up-down rhythm, but you pass over the strings without hitting them on one of the passes also the first two chords after that pattern are X X 11----3rd finger x 9----first 10----2nd x 10---2nd finger 9----1st 11--3rd 0---open 9---thumb |
