I'll just give my usual boring Robert Smith, Johnny Marr and pre 90's Edge (should actually probably ******* Achtung Baby though) answer. Oh and Reg Smithies/Dave Fielding from Chameleons.

Clearly i give little (no) value to technical skills.

I could be convinced to add Andy Sumner and maybe Mick Jones on the list.

Have you ever tried to play Marr's stuff?

I can't do it

I haven't tried much of it but what i did i can.

Not as well as he would though. It's possible there is some of his songs i couldn't play, like i said i haven't tried to play that many. Mainly I figured if i learned This charming man it would be a perfect distillation of his style and just that could teach me a thing or two. I feel it has.

But yeah in this list he's clearly the more technical one. I mean in comparison. So is Sumner on occasion.

And i would contend that edge has such a unique style that it's hard to replicate sometimes. All these fast echoey mutes... they never sound right when i attempt them anyway. You can play his stuff but you can't rely do it justice, a lot of it anyway.

This Charming man is probably the easiest one to play

Stuff like Girl Afraid or Barbarism Begins at home I really struggle to play in a way that makes it sound effortless like he does

Yeah part of the reason i didn't try many is hes very often using a capo (like girl afraid) and until very recently...i didn't even have one. I had no use for it.

Bonzo was the greatest ever. Jussayin. When I used to teach kids drums once they had learnt to play a basic straight 4/4 i'd put on Kashmir and tell em "Now you gotta learn to play it like THAT"

can't believe i forgot to list graham coxon

blur & its associated side-projects (gorillaz in partic obv) has been some of the most formative alternative music for me since i was 13, a lot of his stuff guitar-wise was otherworldly to me
