Well BC has said that he was a big fan and definitely on Gish you can hear it in some of the guitar work. I Am One in particular has some very Slash-like guitar leads. Bury Me too. I also hear it on a lot of those unreleased pre-Gish 1990 'rawk' songs like '365', 'Opal/Worship', 'Try to Try', 'Lie I Lie', 'Razor', etc.

you know in case slash's legal advisor is wandering these parts or anything a likely scenario! |

Come on Billy, Duran Duran never sued you for so little. Simon LeBad even played with you.

Billy needs to stop fucking using other music and artists as excuses for why he's doing things the way he is now. "The kids" this and that, how do you know Billy you're miles away from the ground.
Artists become relevant by creating relevancy, not by honing in on someone else's. |

are you a kid!? are the ppl that grew up on Pumpkins, GNR, Nirvana, Metallica...Pink Fliyd, Queen, Zeppelin kids!? what an obnoxious hypothesis that only kids ar entitled to lsten to rock music. Kids today don't even listen to rock, for numetal generation is now in their 30's. Music still existing rock bands make is made for their old fans. Today kids are stupid and know shit about music. There might be 1% exception, but not more. Kids today listen to that talking shit called rap, electronic music and boring crap r'n'b. Go see Foo Fighters show, you won't see anyone younger than 30, mostly mid 30's - mid 40's. Last edited by croPUMPKINS : 01-18-2015 at 07:44 PM. |

billy's been moaning his arse off since the early '90s. as he ages and with declining success it's just more noticeable and he comes off as horribly out of touch and clueless. plus he's not one to turn down an interview so there's more opportunity to hear his bellyaching.

The guys a complete dick.
He complains about there being no culture ever celebrating him (what) and in the same interview kinda whinges about fans getting bored at his gigs. Fans don't pay (pretty extortionate prices tbf) to go get bored. They don't say "hey guys lets all pay Ł40 each to see Smashing Pumpkins so we can stand around for a bit and walk out after half an hour". They pay up to hopefully have a good time and see a band they love. Billy that's the culture that celebrates you. Right there in every major town and city in most of the developed world. Paying for the privilege of celebrating you on your demand. I guess he wants Jesus to knock on his door and tell him "good job". Magazines to make new 6/5 or 11/10 ratings just for him. |

He thinks he hasn't been celebrated because he wants both popular and critical acclaim. He despises being loved by the masses because he considers them dumb, but he also sneers at indie bands who are critically acclaimed but don't want to be huge. But when combined, these two things create something he considers valuable. Basically, he wants to be Bob Dylan or Led Zeppelin or, as it turns out, Radiohead. He thinks that by now people should be writing PhD theses on his work.
This is typical of people who can't find meaning or enjoyment in life here, right now. It's not enough to have a pretty good run and then bow out (like the rest of us do). He wants to be canonized, and he CANNOT let go of that idea. And that's why he shows no appreciation for the support he actually gets. It's too mundane and fleeting for him, and he's yet to realize that mundane and fleeting is all we'll ever get in life. |

that and his writing is, frankly, not worthy of in depth study. billy's biggest achievement is as a performer. that's why who's in the band matters so much. his music lives and dies by its performance and presentation-- his songs aren't good enough to live on their own.

Claims he's going to do his own thing and not give the public what they want.
Makes a pop album because he thinks that's what the public wants. Show me where a Siamese Dream II would actually fail. Unless it's Billy being a cheap imitation of himself, a new Siamese Dream is exactly what I want. |

You say nobody would buy it because why?
1) Anything Billy's done post-2000 (or, to the mass public, post-1997)? 2) No Jimmy? 3) No Jimmy + James and D'Arcy? 4) Poor album sales in general for a struggling market? I'm sure a little of all of those, and I'd agree with you. Still, for the most part, the people still listening to any of his new music are his die hard fans, not new fans. This crap he put out in December was for new fans, but really it was listened to by old fans. Why then should he care about making music for the public? Why not make what he wants to make, which I'm sure we'd all much rather enjoy? |

Because nobody gives a fuck about Smashing Pumpkins or Billy Corgan anymore. Billy drove his band and his career into the ground. He's on the same level as Everclear. People hear the name and say "ohhhh yeah, I remember listening to them back in high school/college. They're still around?" And then they're promptly forgotten. Time for Billy to call the guys from Marcy Playground and Dishwalla and plan out a 1995 Nostalgia Tour.

Yup.
It's the same reason Adore "failed" and Machina "failed" and ZG "failed". People cared about the Pumpkins for like 3 years max |

Sure the Pumpkins are out of the spotlight. A SD II wouldn't put them back in it, but wouldn't it be more well received from the current fan base than MTAE.
