Default Is billy low on money?

He made most his cash 15-20 years ago and the current sales and tours aren't what they used to be.

Plus he had to pay for Mike's braces and swimming lessons.

I recall reading an interview from around 2008 where he said they were actually losing money touring. I would imagine SP was a bigger draw then than it is now.

Based on what he's written about himself (see: the million dollar advance for SD "rotting in the bank"), and what other band members have said about his miserliness, I'm guessing that he's simply reluctant to spend his savings on his current projects. Thus, he's done everything from VISA commercials to eBay auctions to tea house sales to fund SP2, SP3, weird vinyl releases, etc.

If he or someone said that, it's complete bullshit. Unless the shows were selling to like 30% capacity and the band was staying in suites at 5-star hotels in the middle of major cities and flew privates jets to gigs and nobody was buying a lick of merch and everyone on the crew was making 10x their worth, they were making money on the tour.

The average guarantee that the band makes per show...that's just for getting on stage and playing, falls between $200k - $400k / night.

Maybe what he meant was that they were shelling out so much money front loaded on the tour (such as developing that crazy ball backdrop thing) that they didn't recoup their spend until somewhere after midway through the tour, but there's no way in hell any band with a halfway competent manager would let them go on the road and lose money.

No way he was losing money in 2008. Those shows were huge. Dexter said once he could buy a new plane every year just from his touring cash, and they play the same venues as SP.

Good post. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case.

Courtney Love once said Billy is very wealthy because of good investments, but she's not exactly the go to "good investment" person.

Yeah. I'd say Billy is just very shrewd with his finances.

Plus, he only has like, 2 outfits.

i used to think bill was broke but definitely now think that he's actually pretty good at money management

i mean he doesn't ever live in a retarded house with a huge staff, i find the idea of bill corgan having massive parties with champagne filled pools to be hilarious. guy seriously has about 2 outfits that he got at buffalo exchage

he's been wearing the same clothes for 4 years. does he even own a car? he doesn't seem to spend money on the typical rock star crap. He probably spends more money on Jeff than on himself.

ha ha he has a jeff, lol.

Seriously though, a good business person never invest their own money into projects so I see his ebaying, store, etc. as all smart moves. I think he does have some money issues in the sense that some of ventures break even. Oceania was a costly tour and didnt sell out everywhere. He made money but not Paul McCartney money.
