Default Who will Mitt Rmoney pick for his VP?

Gingrich said he wouldn't serve in a Mitt administration. I'm thinking Mitt hates Santorum's frothy guts.

Cantor? Palin? (LOL JK) Long Dong Ron Paul?

Paul probably scares Mittens too much... But as long as it isn't a Tea Party retard idgaf.

The names being tossed around constantly in-fucking-clude Paul Ryan (wannabe policy wonk and Randroid, but at least has some economic cred), Chris Christie (another RINO, at least as far as many Repubs are concerned; for this reason, I doubt he gets the slot), Marco Rubio (would help him with fundies and Hispanics, but I don't think he wants the position), Bobby Jindal (I don't think he wants the job either), and Nikki Haley (would help him grab some Southern votes).

My guess is, it will be either Haley or Ryan.

right now the consensus among 'insiders' is it'll be rob portman. he's not risky and it'd make ohio quite a bit harder for obama to win. catch is, he was a budget director under bush so... yeah

other than that i think it'll be either rubio or paul ryan. rubio has a memoir coming out before fall and he hired a bunch of oppo staff... so its hard not to suspect romney and rubio have things planned out already to some extent. i think rubio could actually take romney over the top

ryan is kind of a liability with his budget, he's not 'exciting' and he's not from one of the core states or wouldn't put him into play. so it would probably be a bad choice

I was thinking Rubio too tbh. But he might get Karl Rove on the phone who hooks him up with some Palin-like nobody who's a politician/businessman though. Guy might even grab Huckabee... Bleh.

Huntsman maybe? Or better yet, some old general.

ROB PORTMAN
Junior Senator from Ohio

Pros:

~Ties to a critical electoral swing state (Ohio)
~His political infrastructure is credited by many for pushing Romney over the top in Ohio's Republican primary

Cons:

~Boring as whale shit
~Was Dubya's budget director
~Served 12 years in Congress before joining the Shrub's administration, which would run counter to Romney's attempts to portray himself as being a problem-solver from outside Washington

http://www.tnr.com/sites/default/fil...20Ryan%206.jpg
PAUL RYAN
Wisconsin Congresscritter/long lost twin of Andy Serkis

Pros:

~Likeable and has a rapport with Romney, with both having received endorsements from one another
~Has risen to national prominence and become a media darling because of his focus on debt issues and his plan to eliminate the deficit

Cons:

~His Path to Prosperity deficit reduction plan is an exercise in radicalism that is bound to alienate the elderly and middle-class voters
~A prominent member of an unpopular Republican House leadership
~He may not want to give up his Congress seat for a VP run

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4mb9aaKlj5...1600/rubio.jpg
MARCO RUBIO
Junior U.S. Senator from Florida

Pros:
~ Young and charismatic
~ Like Rob Portman, has ties to a critical swing state (Florida in this case)
~ Will attract Hispanics and may help Romney's case with conservatives who think of him as a RINO

Cons:
~ Inexperienced (has less than two years' experience as a statewide elected official)
~ Favors a version of the DREAM Act, which would allow certain illegal immigrants who arrived in the United States as children an opportunity to become citizens. This may not sit well with many in the Republican base
~ Although Rubio is seen by many Republicans as their answer to Barack Obama, how jazzed will the Fundies be about a Republican presidential ticket that has two candidates with ties to Mormonism?

http://themescompany.com/wp-content/...s-Christie.jpg
CHRIS CHRISTIE
Governor of New Jersey

Pros:
~A popular Republican governor of a largely liberal state (!)
~Can appeal to moderates
~Charismatic and a great communicator
~Would possibly put New Jersey into play for the Republicans
~Has been tough on unions, which will resonate well with the base

Cons:
~A Republican ticket with two candidates from the liberal Northeast will likely not resonate well with the south
~Perceived as a RINO by many Republicans, which would further weaken Romney's already-lukewarm support with the base
~Tends to be a straight-talker who speaks off the cuff a lot, which may not bode well for a national campaign, which is by nature very structured
~Looks like Dan Aykroyd

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...e_Skidmore.jpg
BOB MCDONNELL
Governor of Virginia

Pros:
~Social conservative from a key swing state
~Would help to appease right-wingers who worry that Romney is a Massachusetts moderate, while bolstering the Romney campaign in the Deep South

Cons:
~Radical conservative in terms of his social views, to the point it may severely hinder Romney in a national election, as evidenced by his now-infamous masters degree thesis.

But like Gingrich, who would want to run with Romney? I don't see Christie getting on that ticket.

Jeb Bush

Here's why if it comes to pass:

Quote:
While digging deeper into this continuing web of deceit, we discovered that not only did Mitt Romney introduce Dr. Michael Herzog to the Davidson Kempner Group, but it has now been discovered that Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush arranged for 10 Billion Dollars to be invested in the Davidson Kempner Euro Fund, thus making it the company’s largest investment, with Romney and Jeb Bush as beneficiaries. Now, who do you think Romney’s VP nominee will be?

if i were a 'rising star' in the GOP i'd be pretty wary on getting on a ticket with what's essentially a republican mike dukakis. so i wouldn't be too surprised if christie and/or rubio decline

and as for rubio i'm not too sure that would put latinos under the romney column. it'd definitely lock down florida but obama can do without that state like clinton did in '96

I guess Nikki Haley took herself out of the VP running, so I'm gonna go with who Order 66 said; Portman. If it's not him, and the aforementioned "rising stars" of the GOP (Ryan, Rubio, et al) decline, it'll probably be either him or someone equally as boring...or maybe Romney will be silly enough to pick Rick Santorum in an effort to win over all those religious voters, then watch as the prime-time comedians and Frothy's lack of agenda control combine to result in the implosion of his candidacy.

The good VP candidates know that Mitt is a weak candidate, so they'll bow out and let someone boring take the slot. They'll let Barry have his four more years, while at the same time prime themselves for a 2016 race that already looks wide open on both ends of the political spectrum.

I think the race will be close enough any of them will be willing to try VP. VP wouldnt get the blame if Romney totally tanks, which I dont see happening, let alone if he just loses.

I dont see why you guys think any of them wouldnt go for raising their profile.

So basically any republican ever.

No srsly tho I think that's the equation. Makes Portman a good possibility.

I don't expect any hail marys like Palin was, say with a non-white candidate, a woman, or an independent/Jew. He's gonna need that Christian vote and right now they're not too crazy about him.

although Rubio would be a solid choice since the repubs need to put non whites in charge

i don't think jindal has a chance, he blew it a while ago with that hilarious state of the union response, and blaming obama for the oil spill seemed to go down in the public eye as vindictiveness over katrina. Haley is part indian, right? she has more of a chance to be Veep than Jindal.

East Indians really are the Republican's secret minority bloc, it would do them a lot of good to promote that.
