In which Ram27 panicks about losing his job
F
Been delivering pizza at this place for almost a year, longest I've ever had a job [had school shit before]. Got on really well with everyone. A couple weeks ago I texted the work group chat thing that I couldn't make it today because a) last time I worked that shift I made $11 in like 5 hours. b) my car was in the shop and I probably actually lost money paying for gas/the rental c) it was shitty out and d) I was tired I dunno leave me alone I did this at like 6AM and go back to bed. [there's a little sign saying we need to give more than 2 hours notice; I gave ~5]. I wake up a bit later and didn't really check my phone, just did internet shit. Apparently my manager totally lost his shit and said 'you either show up or you can find another job!' like wtf. And I was lying in bed and totally fucked. The shitty part was his next text: 'and yes I am serious'. Like he knows it's a huge departure from his normal tone of joking around and being a decent guy and stuff. w. t. f. I guess....Imma try to go in today and apologize for...being a dick or something? I dunno. I've applied to like 15 other delivery jobs over the weekend - was hoping somehow I'd get a call before I had to go in, just so I could be like 'I only kinda give a shit bitch' Ugh what do I say. Should I dress up at all? Wtf. I've been waking up nervous for days now. My fucking new year's resolutions were a) get better at guitar and b) move out of my parents. Which seems totally attainable cause it's not as though I have...kids or a girlfriend or anything. I can totally afford $500 for my car and $500ish for rent a month. I got free food at work and am totally happy with $1 taco bell as a meal fuckkk I don't wanna go to college cause college makes me suicidal and lonely, as seen thru my post history here lol |

I realise that things can be vastly different from one country to the next and acknowledge the high likelihood of ignorant assumptions being made, etc., but I've noticed that the younger members of the forum all seem to take on work that would ordinarily be performed by people quite a few years younger or else those facing certain other barriers to employment were this my own side of the planet.
Is office-based administration work, purely for example, not typically made available to those in their early twenties in the United States and Canada? |

This isn't to say that data entry is better than washing dishes, mind you. I am more referring to the idea of taking sedentary work in a climate-controlled environment over that which might be physically draining, put miles on your personal vehicle, isolate you socially, etc., without being any more lucrative or where you might better equip yourself for some form of progression within an organisation possessing of a higher ceiling for such growth.

They prefer some sort of undergraduate level degree, but it is possible to find something without one. It's highly competitive, though.

It's weird how "panicking" is spelt with a 'k,' and yet "panic" is not.

kekeke i once asked for time off for a christmas vacation with my family, but i didn't get it. really, it was only a courtesy that i asked at all, so i went anyway since i had asked even before thanksgiving and my boss played favorites. when i got back i just went to work as if nothing happened and nothing was ever said to me.

I dunno, aside from the car being in the shop, it sounds like you're making a bunch of irrelevant excuses for just not wanting to go to work. It's tough when people rely on you, eh?

(Although technically, neither peanuts, cashews, almonds, nor pistachios are true botanical nuts. But then again, neither are nuts.)

Also I'm probably being unfair to Ram because I grew up poor and always went to my job unless I had the flu or something. And no one ever bought me a car. But again, brush yourself off. it'll be OK.
