Quit projecting on me.

People always use those tactics when this topic comes up ("oh, he must be trolling!"), but I genuinely believe that there simply aren't new bands making rock music that comes anywhere close to the quality of the key groups in the 90's, 80's, 70's and 60's.

There's definitely reasons for this. The dying music industry being the obvious example and the other being that rock is simple out of style. Nonetheless I don't understand how one could argue that current rock is better now than it was in any one of those decades.

I mean, I've checked out groups like Sleep and Alcest and the groups everyone loves here and I'm sorry, they're not my cup of tea.

Every time Corgan uses his preferred phrase "honestly" it sounds like a parody...

There are some good guitar bands here and there. It's just that nobody is paying attention to them and they aren't getting any radio play or social media attention. We live in the viral marketing and meme age in which rap and pop seems to thrive in. Greta Van Fleet is the only rock band in years to get a massive marketing push due to their rich parents and connections. It goes to show that any rock band could be big now if they were relentlessly shoved in peoples faces.

Pinkerton is not as good as everyone says. The post-Pinkerton stuff isn’t as bad as everyone says. There isn’t this massive fucking gulf between El Scorchio and I’m Your Daddy.

I remember being pretty disappointed with Pinkerton when I bought it the day it came out. It grew on me, but still don't think it's as good as the Blue album. It became pretty apparent once he left that Matt Sharp was the secret weapon in that band.

Didn't Weezer release a 30 songs online around Maladroit? Those downloads still exist?

I only have Private Message and Living Without you from the EU album.

An SP board seems the obvious place to ask.

Fucking hell

Weezer, along with Tool and NIN were always discussed to death here. Well, on the appropriate forum. Didn't actually think that this board was still going to be around by 2019 in the first place but i sure as shit didn't think ppl would still talk about fucking weezer all the time

I thought it was the weaker of the 2 albums initially but it grew on me in a massive way and I ended up liking it more. But it's like Appels and Oranjes .

Still, all of the Pinkerton b-sides are amazing. You Gave Your Love To Me Softly, Devotion, Waiting On You, ETC

No-one on this fucking internet is seeding the Maladroit and Album 5 demos.

If anyone on this board has them, I have some super rare Teargarden mp3's in my possession I'd consider trading.

I can't fathom a human being who is supposedly into "guitar music" putting on Alcest (especially that first record) and being like "nah. not my cup of tea."

that is actually mind-blowing to me.

NICE!!

I have found that same SP fandom in a couple of other 'gaze-y/noise/ambient bands. There was a short-lived band named Airs who actually name-dropped Adore as particularly influential.

That's cool. Adore is such an elegant album.

Here's the quote:

The album I wish I’d made is…

The Smashing Pumpkins – Siamese Dream (Virgin, 1993)
“It’s my favourite record of all time. The songwriting is exceptional, the songs are so complex, the guitar-lines are incredible. It’s the first record I heard that had so many major chords; it has this summery, happy feel that unlocked something in my mind. I thought heavy music had to be dark and angry, but what I hear in this record is the most ecstatic sound. I got very inspired by this record, especially for the first album. I tried major chords myself after hearing this.”
