Default Billy's Solo Album

Upon listening to the interview, Here are the facts:

-The new album is set to debut a single in possible February, with a March release date for the album.

-The album will have shorter songs, that he hopes will in effect be easier to digest.

-With shorter songs, there will be no solos .....

Thats about all the news I can find for now, but the last tidbit made me especially angry today.

I am quite a bit let down by this news. One of the trademark corgan attires has been the solos. Without the solos I don't know what will seperate him from being just another musician.....

Maybe all the netphoria pessimists are getting to me....

I'm getting a very "Adore" sort of vibe from the things Billy's been saying:

- a supposedly new sort of sound, vaguely described. (Though Billy has been very careful to not try and say anything to give anyone misconceptions. Adore had to compete right out of the gate with the label of being a "techno" album based on things Billy said. I think he's trying hard not to repeat that.)

- no solos. (This was also one of the first descriptions we got of the songs on Adore way back when.)

- no Jimmy.

- those who've heard it have trouble describing what it sounds like.

I'm not sure whether to be excited about my vibe, or apprehensive. A hard rocking Adore-type album would rule, but I don't want Billy to go back and tread old ground either. As for the lack of solos, Mary Star of the Sea was an album laden with solos. I can stand to see something different this record.

I was listening to the radio interview done today.....

"Robert Smith is on my new record. He went (Billy with British accent) "Ok, got the track, what do you want?" Well, it'd be nice if you sing and put that Cure guitar over it. "Ok no problem."

I'm in love with Robert Smith so I'm freaking out right now.

meh, i don't care that much about solos... if he is making a more laid back album, then the solos can go IMO... i hope it is creative and different just like adore was... I'm hoping for something fresh and interesting...

Man just think if the whole album sounds like when that guitar kicks in in For Martha...Hooooly shit that would be good.

Sadly I can't see it happening..or the guitar solo which comes in late in Ava Adore.

That had some great sounds..Yeah sure, it's not a pure solo but its one brilliant wall of sound.

Well with the songs being limited to longest being 4 minutes long, I know one thing for sure, there won't be a "finale" song on the record.

No song like For Martha, or Porcelina, or Jesus I/MSOTS, or Starla..... it will be straight up.

Billy makes alot of claims, but this time, I think he's gonna be caught in his own hole of good will.

If this album fails, I think he'll lose credibility of alot of people.

Uh, what exactly is his credibility? The fact that he hasn't put out anything groundbreaking in over 5 years? The fact that he couldn't keep any of his bands together? I don't know if you've been living in a cave but hello, everybody stopped caring a long time ago back when Machina came out and he couldn't even fill 4,000 person venues. He's not going to lose any massive fan base and regardless of whether it's good or not or sells or doesn't, he's going to continue to put out records and books every couple years because he sits at home alone and really doesn't have anything else to do with this time. Which is sad. So no, he won't lose any credibility if it fails.

that statement is almost true........except for the fact that on one of their last two shows in Chicago they sold out the United Center which holds about 20,000 people when at full capacity.

As for the credibility thing.....what type of credibility? SP lost indie cred way before Mellon Collie and they lost mainstream cred when they wanted to be artsy. Billy has been there and back again........I don't think he cares anymore.
