I remember someone (it may have even been here) heard the last 30 seconds of Daphne Descends on the radio and described it as sounding like a techno song before the album came out and everyone started flipping the fuck out.

I thought the SP reissues were due to EMI contractual issues, and MSOTS is not EMI, its MM.

I remember some sort of flash player type thing. I think it was mostly live recordings though. Is that what you're thinking of?

interesting that you group speed kills through bsbt together. Never really thought that maybe there was a reason they all have less heavy synth alternates. Which versions of those do you use (speed kills, bsbt)

I'm using all of the proper canon material, for instance if I was using BSBT version electrique or w/e it's called I would have denoted it, such as with the first track (full band version).

The only exception would be Atom Bomb. I almost used the single version "Here's to the Atom Bomb" instead of the demo version found on M2 but it didn't seem right.

Technically Speed Kills and BSBT are in two different acts so I'm unsure what you're asking. Speed Kills represents the car crash that kills June and BSBT is the "prophetic dream" Glass has before the final concert:

GLASS has a prophetic dream that he is a soldier in a war...he wears a uniform, but does not know who the enemy is or even what side he is fighting for...

...in a dark starewell he meets a faceless soldier who takes him by the hand into a dusky basement...the soldier does not speak, and together they sit underneath a single hanging bulb...

the lyrical associations to this are actually more obvious in the electric or arising versions but by default the album version is recognized as the definitive version.

cracked tooth the fading roses

shoot down these skeletal bells

Given all of this information, I can see (maybe?) why the version we have was used on the album as opposed to the others. The mood suits it better. It's a weird dream.

And before anyone says anything - Innocence should be included but I just really don't care for the song lol. It would be in Act 1 probably along with LMGTWTY (which now that I'm thinking about it would make sense somewhere slightly before Vanity). And it would balance the songlist favorably as well, especially if both were added. Hell I spent years without SIYL included just because I was sick of the song.

I finally got a chance to listen to some of the songs in that order, it sounds good and the story/theme flows better. Some of the pairings just sound so much better together, like Act III. I like white spyder (I forgot how much I liked that song) between TEG and Lucky 13. It always sounded so harsh and disruptive to me where it was placed on MII. For some reason I always listen to the Machina albums as a whole, instead of separate tracks, so I'm looking forward to Billy's restructured list. It will be interesting to see how close this one is to the actual tracklist.

As an aside, I really like Billy's vocals on In My Body. That's what I prefer his vocals to sound like on the new songs. The vocals should be buried under the guitar and drums.

bill's vocals were more sustained then

doesn't really matter how low or high the vocals are in that case some things, actually most really do come down to the pure, raw recorded performance. espeicially with vox (that aren't autotuned, etc.)
