LOST fans: Michael is coming back next season!

Turncoat Michael returning to 'Lost' Wed Jul 25, 7:36 PM ET

Turncoat Michael is making a "Lost" `comeback. Harold Perrineau, who plays the character last seen betraying his fellow crash survivors to save himself and his son, will return to the show next season.

ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson didn't offer any details Wednesday of what's in store for Michael. He also didn't say whether Walt, the son played by Malcolm David Kelley, will be seen again.

The pair fled the mysterious island where the crash victims were struggling to survive against the dangerous "Others," with desperate Michael turning over his friends in exchange for escape.

The network had planned to make the "Lost" announcement at Comic-Con International, the comic book and pop-culture show starting Thursday in San Diego. But McPherson, speaking to a meeting of the Television Critics Association, was pressed for the information.

McPherson initially balked at talking, instead joking about what the announcement might be.

"I've cast Don Imus on `Lost,'" McPherson quipped.

Earlier this year, ABC said will run for three more seasons, concluding in 2009-10. The series will return for its fourth season in January.

i am not excited about this. unless they suddenly start writing his character differently... cause he was about as awesome as a bag of dicks.

Seriously. Ugh. Micheal was just... Awful. By far one of the most annoying characters on the show-- the worst part of all, for how annoying he is, he isn't even all that interesting. Why are they bringing him back? What is there to learn about him that we don't already know, that we might actually care about, that we can't learn from Walt? Ditch Micheal, keep Walt.

I'm not really excited about his character...but I am excited that they are going to be continuing that story line instead of just having him drop off the face of the earth.

I'm not sure. I suppose they could use him in a flash forward, or have another child actor play the part.

I'm really, really interested to know where he and Walt have been and how they "return." Although now that the show is doing flash-forwards, it's entirely possible that they really did make it back to civilization, and we'll just be seeing them in the future. If that's the case, I think we'll see Michael as a deeply guilt-ridden individual who probably ends up in that coffin we saw in the season finale.

If it's just like "LOL guyz we drove the boat in a big circle!" I'm gonna be pissed.

edit: I read that the actor who plays Walt is signing back on as a regular as well. Which makes me think the flash-forward-only thing is happening (aside from a few random appearances to Locke).

What? Why? It's not like he posted an actual spoiler; this kind of information is bound to pop up in magazines and online articles. I'm pretty sure anyone who is even most casual LOST fans knew that Micheal and Walt were bound to show back up, anyway-- we just thought it'd be last season.

Man I hate Michael. I've just started re-watching the older season DVDs to keep me busy until the new ones come out, and I've been reminded just how irritating Michael has been ever since the beginning of the show. I'm not happy to see him return. I'm guessing it was him in the coffin on the last episode... but then again, I hope not; I'd like to see him get what's coming to him a lot sooner. Sucks to lose Charlie and then get Michael back.
