Hey its my preference, buddy. I could rank it after one listen if I wanted to. And it will change, as they all do. Don't be a douchebag.

I'm relatively new to this board but I've been a pretty serious fan since SD. I don't feel like I'm too biased by excitement because while I thought Zeitgeist would be decent, I didn't expect it to be anywhere near SP's previous works. I'm impressed that Billy was able to create some really solid songs without just regurgitating the 90's sound.

I'm not gonna attempt to rank all of the albums, but in my opinion, Zeitgeist is right in the middle of the pack after my first listen. This definitely seems like the kind of album that will get better with more spins.

And I really like For God and Country... melodically, it's one of the more intense songs on the album. The addition of the piano and synths adds a pretty dark feeling to the song in my opinion.

I recommend listening to the album with quality headphones, cranked up as loud as you can stand... it really adds to the effect of the layered vocals and draws you into the album. I dig them a lot.

I can honestly say that there isn't a single song on here that I dislike. 4.5/5.0

I agree I loved this part live, but its too low in the mix. Still a good song though

*Keanu Reeves' "whoa"* This album definately caught me off guard. Here are my thoughts after 1½ spins..

pros:

-C'mon let's Go gave me the biggest grin I've had because of music in a long long time. That breakdown part where Billy alone plays the main riff palm muted (?).. chills. This is classic Corgan guitarwise. The main riff is infectious as fuck and continues to grind me further into dust. Zeroesque coolness oozes through.

-Bring the Light. Bollster's Brian May solo annihilates. I love the verses in this one. The first verse especially gave me goosepumps. Not sure about the backing vocals on the chorus though..

-7 Shades Of Black. Catchiest vocal lines on the whole album. Brutal guitars. I can sense a Tony Iommi influence here in parts.

-The new horror score-ish piano bit in God & Country. Way better than the acoustic live version (which I liked).

-Jimmy is absolutely flawless on this one. No complaints what-so-ever.

-Orchid will be considered a classic amongst SP fans for years to come. This is as good as it gets. I dug the church hymnesque feel on the layered vocals.

Cons:

-The chorus in Tarantula seems forced and awkward. Not a big fan of the lyrics on this one either.

-I still prefer the way Lisa & Ginger sing the choruses in Orchid.

I shall review further after a couple of listens..

There is a good album hiding behind the shitty shitty production.

I like the first 7 tracks alright but the rest are just way below par considered previous offerings.

pomp and circumstance almost made me angry thats how bad the song is...

Its an alright album but has by no means made me smile from within like previous pumpkins albums have.

5/10

shitty production? that's an interesting opinion you got there... well, not really.

IMO the production of this album is awesome. it sounds real and risky. i can listen to it and actually imagine them playing it in a room. it captured the live feeling very well and it's not over-produced like machina was.

Vocals are way too high in the mix man...

It doesn't sound risky... it sounds like an idea gone wrong

I can also imagine 40 billy corgans singing in a booth... layers just suck

What's wrong with 40 billy corgans singing in a booth man? Netphoria was founded on the freedom of a man to have as many dopplegangers as he wants.

layers suck? layers have been a huge part of all SP albums, especially SD and MCIS. and yes, the production here does sound risky... at least compared to some past albums. listen to it a couple times through with a good set of headphones, if you know anything about audio production you'll know what i mean. although i do agree that the vocals are too loud in the mix in some songs. i noticed it alot at first but the more i listen, the more i forget about it.

The issues with vocal levels in the songs is soon forgotten when you digest the album a few times and realise the high quality of music throughout the 'Geist

I really miss that little guitar melody on Starz, but otherwise it's a great song whoah at the power in the chorus.

Second verse of BTO when he sings "one by one" ohh chills so fucking good.

Can't understand that people complain and say that That's the Way is to popish and sounds like Zwan. I mean do you guys even like SP? Some of thier greatest songs are way poppier than this one 1979, Perfect, Try, Try, Try and 33 just naming a few. And this song is way closer sounding to songs like Home, Real Love etc so i think you should complain and say it's sounds like a Machina song instead.

I love TFE and all the electronics songs on Adore, but I have to say For God And Country was way better acoustic live. That's the biggest dissappointment on Zeitgeist.

I think Pomp + C is gonna grow on people, it actually has a good feeling and a catchy melody if you listen to it more.

Wow the riff in Come On Let's Go!! It's so much teasing with Zero and I love it!

Tarantula is still a great great song and it's so classic pumpkins in the end when the music get's more quiet and then it gets loud again. Reminds me a bit of Siva.

Caliphorina-

Many people are of this opinion. Some of the vocal mixes are way too elevated. The vocals in a few of the songs drown out the music completely.

It's not a slight against the band just whomever engineered the track (and I'm guessing the same person engineered those 3 or 4 songs)
