Very 70's sounding. Sounds like an Ogilala leftover a'la Aeronaut or Zowie.

I kind of like this song. The "uplifting" lyrics are the worst part. I really like the strings a lot and also think the guitars in this one sound great.

Oh god I just love this shit. It kind of reminds me of For Your Love / God is gonna set this world on fire.

I'll see how tolerable it is after a few more listens. It's pretty exciting to hear something which sonically is an immediate departure from safe territory for Bill, since safe territory is all he does the last 15 years

of the 3 songs this one is most complimented from that "Rubintastic" drum sound, as well

unfortunately, this confirms SP2 is SP2 with or without iha (or jimmy). it's just subpar in comparison and has its own distinct flavor.

Sorry...

Hate it.

This isn't music I listen to.

Each single has been worse and worse.
That woo-wowoo crap is annoying.

Disappointing, sorry Billy, I'll grab my Machina reissue and be on my way.

He was doing a lot of mis-guided "Beatlesque" stuff pre-Oceania but on this one he actually kinda got it right. First listen sounded more like Primal Scream or something to me than Smashing Pumpkins. That reminds me, I gotta listen to that last PS album already

I miss Jimmy sounding like Jimmy on a new studio recording.

Yeah, me too. I don't hear James or Jimmy really in this. Still comes off as the Billy Corgan Experience and James and Jimmy are set to neutral.

One thing I like about the track is it reminds me a lot of Fitz and the Tantrum's first album, which was a musical high point of the 00's, this song in particular https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj6L...97dDq&index=10 , though I like this FatT track a lot better.

I wonder if this classic RnB exploration is possibly an attempt to make a track his wife might enjoy. I have no idea what music his wife listens to, but being as young as she is I doubt 80's metal and 90's alt rock were ever her thing. He has dabbled in folk and country western on and off since the 90's, even techno and pop, but this, borderline blue eyed soul, is truly out of left field.

All of these tracks have two contexts, hearing them by themselves, and hearing them as part of the eight track set. Regardless of what I think of them now, I'll feel different after hearing them in the context of all eight, a few times over. Unfortunately this is the first track of the album, I think it would fare better to my ears if it was in the middle somewhere. I know I can rearrange them however I want, but still.

It has one context. It’s the Donald Trump of rock mixing his vocals high as fuck in the mix, with all-round terrible production, while he tries to channel some lame 70’s prog track with none of the energy of the original band. Jimmy sounds like a Tommy Lee cut paste and fed through a drum machine. Lyrics are nothing.

KEEP SINGING LIKE SHIT AND STICKING IT WAY UP IN THE MIX BILLY, YOU HAVE SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SINGING VOICE, BABE! LOVE YOUR “WOH-WOH-WOAHS”!

File under: Song For A Son, Widow Wake My Mind.

Well there are still five tracks unheard. There's a good chance that one of them touches on that sound. It's shaping up to be an eclectic album.

Stellar is a great song, I like the low key bridge that kicks back up towards the end. The lyrics are also great, people complain about "happy Billy", this song is not that. It sounds a lot like a Machina I track, like a better "Age of Innocence".

This is great. New ground from the more traditional sp sounding last two. Exactly what I was hoping for from them. So happy right now. But, as the first guy said in his review - I do understand why it might slightly polarise.

Good stuff. Good stuff.

Red face

I felt an emotional wall come up between this song and me and muffle it down to an unintelligible twinkle

Like if I could somehow look at this song all I'd see would be a completely gray blur
