That UVA story. From what i read RS now basically just went and trusted the fraternity investigation that says there was no party the date of the alleged rape. Yeah cause i'm gonna trust the fraternity not to cover it up? The fact is whether THAT girl was raped or not there like 80 pending investigations or whatever at that university. So you know... And fake rape accusations are rare as shit. Some people need to stop acting like its a common thing that happens ALL the time. It exists, it's a very small minority.

They created a work of fiction and passed it off as fact. They've got a big egg on their face and they're trying to save it. Not the egg, their face. It's too bad, cuz RS has done solid journalism over the years. But they couldn't help the progtardism on this one and it backfired.

It is also possible she just got the date wrong... I find it very improbable that nothing at all happened to her.

Regardless, you are correct of course. Using one example to nullify hundreds or thousands of others is ignorant at best.

She was rather manipulative toward this name of Barry. The copyright page does state some names have been changed. Early on in the memoir, she mentions an ex-bf named "Jonah" and specifically mentions that name has been changed. Not so for the Barry character, who, a conservative guy named Barry from Oberlin is suing her for and whaddya know, the publisher is going to pay his legal fees now.


The real Barry was a well known conservative in Oberlin at the time she went to school there a decade ago. I guess its a coincidence she named her alleged rapist as Barry, and also just an oversight she didn't mention the name was a pseudonym. Complete accident, surely.


that girl is a whack job and has done a decent job at setting back the issue of rape for awhile. RS and Random House are plenty liable for their lack of oversight and general pathetic nature of the journalism on this one.
