Yeah I really love how the chorus starts out. This part is really strong:

I need a love to help me find my way
I need a strength that I cannot betray
I need a word to say what I can't say

But then I feel like he just kind of ruins it with the generic “I need a lovaaaaahh” part.

had no idea people like Cherry that much, that went into my "SP 1 songs you never liked" top 5.

I currently hold the old TAFH boxset in my hands and will go on a relistening/ranking journey, I'll keep you all updated if Cherry still makes the bottom 5!

----
groundbreaking update: Cherry isn’t in my bottom 5 any longer, that’s filled with the covers and Rotten Apples.

favorite 5 (not counting the singles)

Mouths of Babes
Pennies
Medellia of the Gray Skies
God
Marquis in Spades

Wow, Rotten Apples is in your bottom five? I think that song is amazing. That is some vulnerability right there in that song.

Cherry should have been on MCIS, would’ve been good towards the end of disc one. Of course MCIS is still perfect as is.

Yeah, Mouths of Babes and Marquis in Spades are two of the best from that era. I think he said that Flood talked him out of including MOB on Mellon Collie and the rest of the band hated MIS. I mean, Mellon Collie is perfect as-is, but still... fuck them all if that’s true because those songs are amazing!

yeah zero ep is the best. like someone said, it's like a mini album full of uber senescent badassery plus pennies such a sweet little tune!

Yep. I remember Billy saying Pennies was intended as a joke by the band. I was never sure if he meant that the song itself was a joke or that it’s placement on the single was a joke, because you have all of these heavy, dark tracks and then BOOM! Pennies! Such epic placement.

The Zero EP is one of my most listened to SP releases ever, so I think I was biased from the start when revisiting the old TAFH boxset.

I got the Zero EP right when it came out, but couldn't afford TAFH and only got that as present over 2 years later. Just seeing the back cover gives me all the nostalgic feels.

Yesterday I found a dirt old txt file I had made for Pastichio Medley, the exact time stamps I apparently needed to compile only my favorite bits in a row.
According to that list, my favorite bits were 77, Weeping Willowly and Jackboot.

Seeing that was a mixed experience of thinking "there is so much wrong with me and always was" and suddenly fully understanding why I am still here. There has never been another band for me where I sat down and hit pause every 10 seconds to mark the timestamps of some instrumental doodles.

Mouths was on my list, which happened to not be ordered, for all you know it could be my #1! (it's not)

This was much harder than I thought it would be. Zero is the overall strongest and most consistent, but I guess I have a soft spot for Tonight. 6-10 were especially difficult, but I feel pretty confident identifying my top 5.

10. God
9. Rotten Apples
8. Set the Ray to Jerry
7. Medellia of the Gray Skies
6. Ugly

5. Mouths of Babes
4. Jupiter's Lament
3. The Last Song
2. Meladori Magpie
1. TAFH

and a few others it is really difficult for me to not mention: dreaming, tranformer, tonight reprise, marquis, cherry

Solid list, RBG. Glad to see Jupiter’s Lament get some love. Such a great track. Usually when I play solo acoustic sets, I start out with that song because it’s easy to play and is a good way to stretch out the vocal chords.

Jupiter's Lament was the first song I ever learned to sing and play simultaneously. It's an all-time favorite for sure

the "why have you left me part" is classic mcis, for shure.

btw anyone who didn't list tafh (the song) in they're top ten is tripping in parallel universes (that shit was clean).

fuck yeah, that's why I put TAFH as NUMBER ONE. I'm not sure the Pumpkins ever achieved a better heavy guitar tone in the studio

Yeah, the 33 single is juicy. My Blue Heaven is such a great cover, and The Last Song is a tearjerker. And Transformer is such a fun track.
