What would have caused this? And how come this is present on both the Machina and TheFutureEmbrace premasters? Coincidence? Another interesting similarity: nobody seems to know where both premasters come from. They appeared out of nowhere. Weird shit, I tell ya. |

i wish i understood this, i see how the album is clipped on s&p and aoi but other than that i cant tell much of a difference
the flacs you posted, caic, seem to be identical to my flacs cept for from cuts n such i thought the premasters were sposed to sound grittier |

my flacs aren't premasters. the only clearly notable differences are in s+p (alternate intro/outro) and age of i (different mix), and in siyl and the second part of glass (no clipping here, unlike the album version).
if you want the premasters of all tracks, download the files that "thank you" posted. i haven't checked them out, but apparently they also contain the different versions of s+p and age of i. |

I'll upload it to my YSI account once it's done downloading... so another download site should be available later this afternoon.
Excited to hear this... geeze, you guys are getting me all fired up on this. -adam |

i'm halfway through R+S and i haven't noticed any real differences in this or TEG. except i thought i heard a couple cymbal taps or some shit on the TEG outro that can't be heard in the original version. or something. :-/

ah, dammit. the percussion intro on S+P is awesome, but I think the rest of the song sounds better after mastering. AHHHH.

...and it's interesting to hear a different version of AoI, but the album version is one of my all-time favorite songs, and I think it's much better in its finished form.
ok i'm done. |

Eulogy, I'm sorry you can't see hear the glory of these...I actually can not believe you can't tell the difference, but whatever.
To everyone else in this thread, there was a great article in this month's Rolling Stone that was EXACTLY about this topic..and they even had side by side images comparing the waveforms (similar to the comparison on the everlasting gaze actually). While SP wasn't specifically cited in the article as having an "overmastered" album, they could have easily been called out on it. Audiofreaks, I command you to go read it and absorb the knowledge. |

Most of the difference you'll hear is in the drums due to compression. Also, the bass is bigger in the mastered versions, which swallows some of the other details (this is due to EQ, not compression). Also, you probably have to listen on speakers that are better than the $20 ones that came with your PC.
Thanks again to everyone for sharing their different versions. |

Another non-megaupload link - also, I suppose if you want the Jerry Seinfeld standup set formatted for iPod, there it is. =P |

Thanks all. I've only been listening to the bla version of TFE without even knowing that they were the premasters. I'm curious now as to the commercial release. Does anyone happen have the Zwan premasters readily available?

Thanks for the Zwan material. I'd been meaning to get these for a while.
And the roughmixes link still works for me. Just checked it out. |

Is there a difference between Raskilnokov's upload and the previous one? They're both labeled as the same file, but I wasn't sure of the file sizes... Didn't want to download both for not... you know.
