'Indiana Jones' to Be Filmed Next Year
By ALICIA CHANG, Associated Press Writer

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - George Lucas said Friday that filming of the long-awaited "Indiana Jones" movie will begin next year. Harrison Ford, who appeared in the three earlier flicks, the last one coming in 1989, is set to star again. Lucas said he and Steven Spielberg recently finalized the script for the film.

"It's going to be fantastic. It's going to be the best one yet," the 62-year-old filmmaker said during a break from preparing for his duties as grand marshal of Monday's Rose Parade.

Exact film locations have not been decided yet, but Lucas said part of the movie will be shot in Los Angeles.

The fourth chapter of the "Indiana Jones" saga, which will hit theaters in May 2008, has been in development for over a decade with several screenwriters taking a crack at the script, but it only recently gained momentum.

Lucas kept mum about the plot, but said that the latest action flick will be a "character piece" that will ******* "very interesting mysteries."

"I think it's going to be really cool," Lucas said.

At the inaugural Rome Film Festival in October, the 64-year-old Ford said he was excited to team up with Lucas and Spielberg again for the fourth "Indiana Jones" installment. Ford said he was "fit to continue" to play the title role despite his age.

Ford played Indiana Jones in 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark," 1984's "Temple of Doom" and 1989's "The Last Crusade."

Lucas praised Ford for breathing life into his character.

"Mostly it's the charm of Harrison that makes it work," he said.

as for the new new indiana movie, i think it'll be good - it has to be after being so damn meticulous with the script that it took this long

but that said, i think only one indiana movie was a classic, and that was Raiders. the rest were ok

Raiders was the best. Temple of Doom made me cringe. Last Crusade was fun, but not better than Raiders of the Lost Arc.

This will probably suck, but I'm trying to be hopeful. That poll option matched my opinion very well

You all realise that Harrison will pass away a month before shooting is to begin right? I mean, its painfully obvious...!

Also, Temple of Doom is by far the best of the three. Last Crusade is a rancid piece of shit. (except for the moments when he's with his pappy.)

Thumbs up

I'm really glad they won't use too much of that special effects shit Lucas always pulls.

This bit in particular does not fill me with confidence. I liked all three of the originals to varying degrees but who knows. I mean, it's not like George Lucas is the kind of guy who sullies the memory of previously decent things just to make another buck, right? Right?

Batman Returns would be a excellent standard to hold it to. I wasn't nuts about the movie but I would certainly be happy if Indy was up to that level.

Do you guys really want it to be as good as Batman Returns (the second Tim Burton movie with Michael Keaton)? Or are you thinking of Batman Begins (the recent one with Christian Bale)? I must say I'd hope that Indy 4 is closer to the latter than the former. Batman Returns was a little silly.

Harrison Ford will hopefully keep it together, if the stories about his 'executive decisions' are true. There better be Nazis
