1) Guitar work is incredibly simple and boring
2) Lyrically, I have no idea what he is saying outside of the chorus
3) The song sounds identical to anything he's done recently and is therefore compounded with mundanity; especially the vocals



4) Bonus, it has little to no emotion and is instantly forgettable

the comments on the youtube vid of old man bill performing hard times are almost uniformly positive, wasn't expecting that. it does have considerably fewer views than most of fallon's videos, so perhaps the wider audience hasn't bothered to watch it?
