I have the first decade's worth of Swamp Thing comics and I'm not watching this show if it doesn't get me excited about Swamp Thing again

honestly that dude was like a gen y/millenial superhero back in the day and i swear there has been swift, and lasting backlash against him that has practically stuck

i remember when it was en vogue to hate will ferrell but that didn't work half as good as the backlash about kevin hackalicious smith

but lets be real here, will ferrell is funny as hell and possibly an american treasure but admittedly involved in some bad pics to make a buck, Kevin Smith pretends to be a director and writer, yet he hasn't progressed a single inch beyond his phallocentric debut

and he's a REALLY REALLY BAD director holy shit

i mean say what you will about his writing, and it's not great, but his direction is an artistic embarassment. Bad performances, terrible shots, clunky exposition.

I always thought K.Smith got popular not for his writing or his directing but more for his choice of subject matter. He tapped into a new audience. They were movies for people who had everyday conversations about star wars.

He seems loyal to his friends. He started a comic shop and got his longtime comic friend from school to run it. He babysat Jason Mewes for years when he didn't really have to.

i just think about all the stuff about how many dicks that girl sucked and how the she's the grilfriend of the kevin smith surrogate in clerks

because there's always a kevin smith surrogate in the movie, that's why he's a shitty writer. and i'm aware that he is silent bob as well

but actually the central character in dogma is pretty positive so i'm just being condescending for no reason

re: clerks

the character of randal was based on real life friend bryan johnson. that guy is abysmal. but a lot of the minor characters in his movies are either real people he grew up with or based on real people he grew up with.

the more i learn the more i see that most of his movies are based on walter flanagan (the older kid that introduced kevin to the world of comics - brodie from mallrats was based off of him and walter played multiple characters in clerks and mallrats) and bryan johnson. kevin smith attributes his sense of humor to this guy and he really is a nightmare. if anything i would blame him. kevin does.

To surmise the real shock is that he's involved not what he's saying.

It reminds me of a story he once told where he got Ben affleck to write a tag line blurb for one of his movies and so whilee Kevin didn't like the first one it turned into a challenge of who could make the worst tagline.
