so Project Regeneration Volume 1 came out a couple days ago..

i gotta say, i'm pretty disappointed that nearly all of the songs include the vocal style of shadow zone, which is their worst album in my opinion.

shadow zone was the one where their record company made them work with a different producer and tried to make wayne sing in a 'melodic' way

so this album lacks power because of it. he was at his best when he was just machine-gun firing off repetitive phrases like a maniac.

there are some moments like that, but most songs are marred with this vocal style. it's a style that he abandoned pretty quickly after shadow zone because it really wasn't that great and doesn't seem like something they tended towards on their own. makes sense that it's prominent here though, this album was kind of built up around abandoned songs and demos they found.

terminator oscillator, my destruction, otsego placebo, follow are the few that don't have the 'shadow zone' style

all that said, i am grateful to get some more music and hear his voice again. did not really expect to hear any additional songs with wayne's voice. it does seem like they did the best they could with what they had. also happy it had an otsego song, even though i'm pretty sure it's not him singing on it. rest in peace Wayne, you fucking rule!!!

ah just took a closer look at the credits for this -- most of the songs i called out as not having the style i dislike don't have wayne as lead vocals, which figures :/

I'll give this new Static-X thing a listen over the weekend and report my findings.

you guys listen to Project Regeneration, Vol. 2? what are your thoughts?

i've got mixed feelings. it's pretty special to get some more songs with Wayne's vocals. it's sad to accept this is the end of that.

it's pretty f'd up that Edsel is like... including diss tracks on this though, seems petty and dumb, especially for an effort that is ostensibly meant to honor Wayne, but is looking more and more like a cash grab with every passing day

and yet... some of his songs really are quite strong

RIP Wayne

Talking

also... there was this thread on the Static-X reddit a couple of weeks ago... someone was in the wrong area and was asking for tips on how to reduce static electricity in their workplace, and the responses are amazing, the hardest i've laughed in months. as one example:

"does it make your hair stand straight up?"

Ah man, we all have those bands that meant the world to us that feel super niche now we are older.
Keep the flame alive.

I have literally never heard a Static X song in my life, but I saw that they're replacing their front man with someone cosplaying their original frontman?

Weird.

Yep, down to wearing a mask and having the hair and everything.

I dont have a problem with it, as the family seem to be ok with it.
If it keeps the music alive then why not?

It probably wont have a long shelf life in this iteration though.
