I'm 20 minutes in an this interview is great so far. Joe is so much better than Howard Stern. It's actually an intelligent conversation.
Right at 1-hour, zero minutes and 30 seconds Joe asks "A generational thing perhaps?"

Saying the 'G' word around Billy normally sets him off on a generational rant. I was surprised that Billy didn't go full on after that remark (though he kinda did).

it was in the cards. billy had to release a solo album for the 'sp reunion' to be a thing. otherwise it was just going to be a continuation of the failing sp2....

I found it kind of interesting how he (indirectly) acknowledged his failure with post-2007 SP and how everything he tried was terrible, and he realized that it was his own fault that things weren't working and he effed up by trying to blame everyone but himself.

And he owned up to being surrounded by yes-men who would never tell him that he is screwing up. He phrased it in a way that fans would know exactly what period of time he was talking about without going into specific details to Joe.

Also he mentions a few times about still living in Chicago but also owning other properties. I know that Chloe is living in NYC with the kid and starting and working on her fashion line so I wonder about how their living situation works. Not that it matters but I'm a deviant and need to know gossip.

Totally agree. It was the perfect approach.

from 5:00 onward here he talks about how much more $$$ he made than his bandmates, and the seeds of discontent that were sewn

I did find the aspect of him not wanting to share songwriting credit with the others, yet being told that would net more money very interesting, but he still said fuck that.

On the flip side, why would Virgin make such an offer? What would've been in it for them?

Interesting how, between this and the Howard Stern interview, he's dished more dirt on his dad (and family life in general) than he has during the rest of his career.
