Default It’s crazy listening back to Arising shows

If D’arcy hadn’t left and all had gone according to plan, the Machina era would’ve been an apt continuation of the golden era. Jimmy’s back, the new songs sound great, the band is back in form.

If only WPC would stop wasting his fucking time selling hats then maybe the fucking Machina reissue would come out and we'd get a full copy of that incredible Detroit show (which surely exists, right? It seems weird for them to setup a whole multicam shoot then only do three songs to steam over a crappy 1999 internet connection)

I remember trying to connect to that livestream and it failed (Real Player, I'm guessing - that stuff was the BEST. .rm files always made me wish I was dead, even back then) and once I got those .mpeg files that were floating around: man, just stoked.

Then the whole boot surfaced from one of those first few shows and man, stoke factor was at a 10/10 for the future of my favorite band. I caught the last show on that tour at the Roxy in LA and knew that awesome stuff was right around the corner. Then D'Arcy left and it seemed like there was this wrinkle in the whole plan.

And yeah - the concept of a full proshot version of one of those shows - forget it. I'm still stoked that the soundboard showed up from one of those shows. I'd chalk that up as one of the coolest SP related things that has happened in the last 10 years.

Rasholnikov my friend! How are you? Did you know you were at the Roxy with esteemed boarder The Omega Concern?

...so many interesting alternate timelines...

>>>

"He also commented on his idea to record a new album during the band’s final stretch, which was met with resistance by other band members: “My original plan was to book the metro out for the whole month of January and make one last album, writing songs and recording them live in rehearsal and then playing them at night at the ‘shows’…can’t remember how many shows we would have done per week? Maybe 3 or 4. [James] Iha and [Melissa] Auf Der Maur hated the idea and said no. A shame, could have been amazing. Band was tight at that point and i was motivated to write more.” "

That Arising Pug up there up there slays dread demon lords.

Billy should have never kicked Jimmy out. Then Adore would have had a folk acoustic side and a cyber metal side. And Darcy shouldn't have done coke and injected shit into her lips. Then Machina would of been the greatest album like ever.

I should have been in charge. Sigh.

This is where I would usually crack some kind of joke about about how no one ever pointed out how good the Arising shows were, but every time I see one of those three videos (which I have seen countless times now), I remember what a great era it was.

For all the talk from people about how little D'arcy contributed to the band, I have to always point out how quickly things went haywire after she left in 1999; this coming from someone who generally likes Machina,

Arising cincy was my first concert my junior year of high school. Sold out in a few minutes and I paid 45 bucks to scalp a ticket (seemed like a fortune then). Wild to think i am now older than Bolly was during the Arising Tour. talk about a time/mind fuck.

I think about things like this with artists often and it's always mind-blowing, no matter the artist. Sometimes good and sometimes bad but it's always a weird mindfuck to posit your own age in their relative discography and see where their head was at when they were/are your age.

The two biggest WTF's personally have been The Fall and Neil Young (at ages 32-34).

The "calling all daemons" poster was my holy grail of SP collecting for years and years and years... then it finally showed up on ebay when SP had an official ebay account and I couldn't throw that $200 or whatever at them fast and hard enough. Such a damn cool poster.

Greetings and salutations! I did not know that TOC was in attendance that night. Wasn't there one other Netphorian there too?

I distinctly recall being so frustrated about not getting tickets that I just started pressing the F5 button to refresh my browser as fast as I could and then BOOM I had two somehow. Super strange. Meant to be type stuff. #blessed #godismycopilot

yeah man I do the same thing. Sometimes it makes me feel younger....like these dudes were still rocking out at my age and i didn't think they were old dudes back then when i was a teenager.

this should've been called the trailer park tour because Darcy looked like the queen of the trailer park. also its so obvious she was fucked out of her mind because she never did rock poses before

when i was 28 i thought about how Bob Dylan at that age was raising a family and pretty much retired from the music industry... just playing some country songs after having transformed rock'n'roll forever.

the arising tour was a perfect time to be a fan of SP because of the energy the band had, and the excitement and anticipation of what was to come. Both from the fans and the band. and then it went 'poof'. can only blame the departure of darcy for changing that pure energy - thats the only variable. scientifically. ya know.

and yeah i love the artwork for that time too. the posters were awesome. it felt 'cool' to like SP, with graphic designs like that. i too would kill for a daemons poster.

D'arcy's Pantera shirt and Billy's not-quite-so-ridiculous pre-Machina dress are pretty rad!
