*finally listened to the whole thing*

Man... I gotta say, I'm a little surprised about all of the positive feedback here. It's a trogg to get through the full thing and it's only 11 songs....

It's definitely a step back from the Monuments release. The songwriting here is bland and simplistic. It's like he's trying to exude all this passion but it's just so meandering and uninspiring.

In my mind, the only release this albums better than is Teargarden... Definitely disappointing. I was trying to keep an open mind after hearing the singles, but my fears are confirmed. 2 stars out of 5 (at best)

Would have been cooler if he decided to follow up The Future Embrace.

very good: mandaryne

good: spaniards, aeronaut, half-life of a pretentious douchebag, zowie

ok: mostly everything else, except the long goodbye which sucks

The vibe actually reminds me a lot of the Chris Isaac era stuff (which I also didn't like)

does everyone hate Antietam? I think it's the best one. The gentle oohs are really nice and kind of remind me of something from the Tonight Tonight EP

Yeah man. He cackles away like a drowning cat. It sucks. Even apart from that, you don't think the songwriting is particularly weak?

I just listened to the album a 2nd time and these songs make me feel nothing . The only song I kind of like is Archer.

There's actually footage of this track? I thought it was just something that was mocked for it's ridiculousness when it was quoted in Rolling Stone from his erase-board.

That's actually a relief to hear. The albums getting overwhelmingly positive reviews from fans online. I keep listening while wondering if I'm just missing something, or if perhaps it's a slow burner... But I'm just finding little to like.

I think the real truth is that people are just so devoted to Billy that they simply wanna fool themselves into liking something when it's new... Or perhaps if it simply isn't god-awful they're relieved.

In that regard Teargaren was actually a stroke of genius... Because now there's this anxiety that goes along with any new Corgan release, and when it isn't a complete pile of steaming dung, people let out a sigh of relief and celebrate.

But come on guys, a bland mediocre release is still a bland mediocre release.

Yes, it happened

There are moments here and there on this album when I think he's actually trying to show a bit of restraint and use the vibrato less. It's still far too frequent but I didn't find myself bothered by it often.

I also want to sit down and transcribe or read these lyrics because they seem really personal, at times approaching direct, and that's interesting to me. Aeronaut might be only one where he's going on about lovers.

Really fucking good: Archer, Half-Life
Good: Mandarynne, Processional
In between: Most everything else
Forgettable: Shiloh

What's the deal with that lyric in the Spaniards... "To film dragons of grace" or something?
