i don't see what's wrong with posting the "trick" here. it's npr who's hosting these mp3 files on their website, with permission.
nobody of us is illegally sharing them.

first track is here. you can figure out the other ones for yourself.

Archer sounds like a pre-gish demo for some reason!

Edit: I know why, it reminds me of Under Your Spell!

Yeah, this shits all over most of his past decade of work easily, particularly Monumental Eugooglies.

This is the closest to the direction I've always hoped Billy would go when he described forthcoming acoustic projects. The strings really shine in contrast to the use of synth on here.

After a couple of listens this is the best thing Billy has done since... the Spun soundtrack maybe?

It's better than MTAE and ZG - but I can't tell what sort of longevity it will have and I suspect it may review badly.

Im really loving Archer. He's using words to paint an evocative image, and not just...stringing nonsensical words pulled from the rolodex.

tracks i enjoy:

zowie, though it's cheating as a song 'cause that 7th chord is doing all of the heavy lifting. the showtune vibe is cheesy and too easy, but it's ear candy

mandaryine has some nice untethered lyricism, a la annie dog, vanity, or, dare i say, visions of johanna

i do enjoy the world-weary, empty-street roaming croak of archer; it also has what to me is the only interesting sound, instrument-wise, on the album...whatever that thing doing the arpeggios is

I listened to the first 1:30 of aeronaut. his voice sounds good. i like it. And the instruments are good too. biut the melody is forgettable.

still at least i didn't cringe tho i also didn't finish (that's what she said)

There's just no balls in the music anymore.

It sounds like Electric Light Orchestra or something.

Archer reminds me of something from Echo and the Bunnymen's Ocean Rain. It's great.

Worse album from Billy Corgan ever and that's saying a lot.

@ Reprise: No doubt, I hear ya... But the songs are just kind of meandering.

Nice for a statement I guess, but it really wasn't what I was hoping for... Would have been nice to have a little percussion and more melodic interplay to make the songs a little more interesting.

Probably. I'm surprised this is released under Warner and BMG though... I don't hear much commercial appeal in these songs, but who the hell knows.

just go here https://ondemand.npr.org/anon.npr-mp...29_fl_bc01.mp3 and then change the last number of the link from bc01 to bc02 and so on and so forth for every subsequent song. Each song takes 2 seconds to download.

Cheers!

(hope this isn't a problem to post. It is after all hosted legally by NPR)
