But they're good solid rock and rollers. Good at what they did. Still don't like Core much doh.
Creep is probably my least favorite STP song. Even 20+ years later, I just can't get on board with that song. It's the only song of theirs that truly feels derivative to me.

Even still " I am trampled under sole of another man's shoes. Guess I walked too softly." is kinda dope.

i literally explained on the last page what i negged you for. nowhere in my post did i talk about "what other people said," it was purely based on the Core and i guess a couple of Purple-era singles i had heard that sounded really derivative to me. on Tiny Music he pretty much dropped the "Vedder voice" entirely which is part of why i liked it so much

that & the embracing of different styles. imma listen to Purple & No 4 soon enough

Plush is a lot more derivative to me than Creep

like the former pretty much sounds like a straight-up Pearl Jam song to me whereas Creep is more a combo of Alice in Chains & Nirvana, with a little bit of something else thrown in there as well

Purple is the best of both worlds. Core is a good intro and Tiny Music is for the more "advanced." No. 4 and Shangri-Blah-Blah-Blah are also pretty great.

I know a lot of guys who still rock the Scott Weiland/Layne Staley look. It makes me uncomfortable.

Anyone remember when STP was trying to weiner in on the Nu-Metal crowd and played on Limp Bizkits Family Values Tour?

I like STP but they never really seemed comfortable in just honing in on what they were. They seemed to be pivoting all of the time.

They are no worse than Nirvana or PJ or Green Day or any of the 90's arena bands take that to mean what you want

They were kinda trend hoppers in much the same way Corgan was.

It's liked they jumped on the grunge bandwagon hoping to make it big and it was a huge success but then they were like "ahh shit! some people are making fun of us, okay here's Lady Picture Show guys!" and then when their star started to fade they desperately tour with Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park and Static X in a last gasp of relevancy.

That's one thing I do respect about Pearl Jam. They just did their thing and didn't pay any mind to the changing trends

I do like STP so I don't wanna sound like I'm shitting on em, but yes: they are worse than Nirvana PJ and Green Day.

Nirvana clearly wipes the floor with STP and while I like the best STP songs over the best Pearl Jam: it was clear that they were aping the sound of what was going on at the time and that ruins some of the credibility. And Green Day came along organically which holds weight. They came along doing something totally different when Grunge was dominating the airwaves.

pearl jam stuck their heads in the sand and deemed themselves "too holy" for mainstream coverage & music videos and STP evolved and came into their own as a much more individual band, there's a big difference between that and "chasing trends"

i don't really see Corgan as a trend-hopper either (at least before sp2)

Oh come on man. STP didn't "evolve" they merely pivoted cause they were looked upon as a laughing stock to anyone in the music critic/media world. They were always just reactionary to the criticism directed at them. Like when everyone criticized Sex-Type Thing for being misogynistic Weiland tried to deflect the negative press by wearing a dress while performing the song during broadcasted performances.

furthermore, even if i had said something was underivative, it's not like that "disbars" me from ever thinking any other band is

this is all very weird in a thread where i'm saying i liked an STP album, anyway
