No I haven't met him, but I don't like the image he puts forth. I don't like Billy's either anymore, but I found him talented at one point so i supported the Pumpkins. Tool is not terrible, not the musical aspects, but it is missing that spark for me. And I hate the way Maynard sings.

Maynard writes a song about being raped by his stepfather - chock full of humor.

I just feel like every argument in this thread could be made for Limp Bizkit.

Therefore Limp Bizkit = Tool

I feel the same. I shouldn't have said "sucks".

The truth is: They're good for what it is, I just don't like what it is

In rock and roll, it is either awesome or it is garbage. Otherwise you're not a rock fan of the genre.

What's next? Are you going to give Dave Grohl a free pass? The Offspring?

Good god, they have a song called Cruising California (Bumpin' In my Trunk)?

I'm not even gonna click on that outta curiosity. Hard to believe the same band put out Smash.

You should, so you never have an excuse to listen to Offspring again. Not even Ignition.

Never actually dug Ignition. For me they've always been kind of a one album wonder. But I really like Smash, and it's stood the test of time for me. I even thought Ixnay on the hombre was pretty weak and then it was just a Billy Corgan free-fall after that.

Is that song off the album with Original Prankster? It seemed like after Pretty Fly was a smash hit that they went all in on that aesthetic. Really the same ole story as far as major label acts go though... Score a surprise hit with an outlier type song and then the next albums full of em.

The Offspring came across my mind this morning and I was thinking how Americana really isn't a bad album aside from the jokey songs.

Then I realized what year it was, had some caffeine and got back to work.

It's hard to knock any rock band that has a legitimate Top 10 all-time rock drummer. If you were to pick a prototype drummer of some uber prog act using big dark brown tones, you'd pick a guy 6'5'', 225lbs that hits the skins harder than anyone ever has. Like Rush and SP, Tool is one of those lucky bands that found its perfect drummer. I'd put The Joy Formidable on that list as well.

It's funny how many singers I find grating considering SP and REM are two of my favorite bands

they use different time signatures, which is not equivalent to 'smart' or good music. More importantly, they have half assed riffs. I used to be a fan years ago. but i'm completely bored by them now.

Oh no, I know them well. I just don't have any sympathy for Maynard (most of the time) and that's what he wants. He's so fucking whiny, and like I said I love SP and REM so that truly means something.

He's like the opposite of beer and pussy music, like if emo music came out 15 years earlier but was heavily distorted instead

funny, emo music came out in the mid-80's and was pretty much distorted at the time.

I don't really see Limp Bizkit and Tool being anything alike. Limp Bizkit is listened to by the friend you have on Facebook who never did anything after high school and wears those shorts that go down to his ankles and a ball cap not quite on, but somewhere above his head, and also shares Tupac quotes Family Guy bits on his Facebook page. He plays Call of Duty all day and likes paintballing. He keeps on saying he's going to do a trade apprenticeship soon but never really gets around to it.

Tool is listened to by the guy who has long greasy hair and not very neat facial hair who also wears an ill-fitting leather jacket and those black shoes that are something of a cross between runners and dress shoes with that ribbing-over-mesh design, which he thinks is an all-purpose shoe that he can get away with wearing for any occasion. And also a Tool t-shirt. He shares Nietzsche quotes on Facebook and usually keeps to himself and holds most of his conversations on Reddit. He's apolitical because he thinks that all political ideologies are bullshit and most people are dumb. He talks about the importance of scientific and technological progress and leaving the dark ages of superstition while also complaining about modern technological trends like social media for contributing to the decline of intelligence and traditional social interaction.
