March 2016 has been the single greatest month of Pumpkins fandom I've ever experienced

something obviously happend in Bill's mind after that dissapointing tour with Mike and co.

The one after which he felt super bitter.

First Jim, then baby, now James...

I am anti ditching Jeff, have James and Jeff a the same time.

Can you imagine Gossamer, Superchrist, Stand inside, Ava Adore, Porcelina on 3 guits!?

One thing I am certain, Bill will not miss the opprutunity this time around.

The encore with James on the new song is a hint.

there was something inbetween Jim and James on the time-line

Iha parted ways with Smashing Pumpkins following their initial 2000 breakup and subsequently never rejoined Corgan and the band's revolving door lineups.
However, whatever animosity existed between the former bandmates thawed earlier this month when they reunited, in writing, to threaten to sue whoever had been leaking early Smashing Pumpkins demos in recent months.

seeing Iha actually onstage is a nice outcome.

Yeah. Too bad D'Arcy won't come back. We'll see. I think Corgan realizes he needs the original band back. I really like Schroeder though, I hope he doesn't get shown the door. He's been in the "band" for 10 years through some bad eras. I really think if the original band (or at least these three) can get back together we may get some late career greatness from Corgan.

The fact that Oceania was well reviewed but didn't get any respect, combined with the mess that was the Oceania tour, then poor Monuments sales must've brought Billy back to Earth.

Just the on stage rapport from a spur the moment guest spot between the two is incredible. Make Billy and Jeff look like strangers. They seem so out of sync now, from ONE performance I'm seeing on YT. The real Pumpkins, man.

Initially, I thought "adios Jeff" but you're right: it would work out great. Having Jeff around to meet Billy's technical demands would take that pressure off James.

I'm pro ditching Jeff. He sucks. He shows off too much. He's boring. Three guitars would be a mess like Zwan. It's unnecessary. It's time to give Jeff his walking papers.

When James is playing lead stuff and Jeff is playing rhythm stuff it sounds good

the reverse sounds crappy

Jeff probably won't be down with being under James though

I had the exact same thought.

It was a nice moment but it's not as if this one thing suddenly absolves Billy of all his recent (insert your own timeline) asshat behavior.

Billy is still Billy. This was a James thing.

Jeff could always switch over to bass. He's shown he's reliable and can stick around for a long period of time....they go through bass players left and right.

I didn't get the memo why Jeff leaving or switching instruments is being discussed -
people actually believe Iha came to stay, as full, touring (let alone recording or writing) band member???

In a live setting it's not needed. They got along fine with the original lineup with 2 guitars for 12 years.

That picture of Billy and James hugging is one of the best I've ever seen of the band. I always thought they would put aside their differences eventually and do something like this in honor of the amazing band they created. Also what a great gift to the lucky fuckers in the audience to witness this moment and what a lucky bass player (was it Kate?) to be the one actually playing with them at that particular moment.

Hopefully now Billy has Iha again that he can dump Jeff now... no need to have two Asians around.

I think it's over with airplane mode and AJ too.

I don't understand why everyone dogs Billy for continuing to work even though he has a baby. What other fathers do you know stop working?

Yeah I had Mellon Collie on repeat all day

It makes a surprising amount of difference not having to like the old stuff in spite of the current band

they can't help themselves

even if James were to play more shows with SP, I doubt we'll ever see D'Arcy again. unlike the rest of the band she's been completely out of the music business since Machina. and the business isn't exactly a healthy place for her
