Default Zeitgeist Album Cover Artist Interview/Info

Here is a pretty informative interview with the artist (Shepard Fairey) of the album cover and even a short statement by Corgan himself.

Some Highlights:

Asked why he feels the image captures the feeling of the world at this time, Fairey says: “The U.S. is the dominant global force. When things are going wrong in the U.S. they are probably going wrong around the world. I think this image conveys both the U.S. situation and its larger global implications.”

The illustration derives strength from the usage of the color red. Explains Fairey: “I use red frequently because it is a visually powerful, emotionally potent color. Red gets people's attention. In this case there is the added possibility that the red liquid could be blood, giving it an even more sinister sense of foreboding. Red helps people to realize immediately that something is wrong and the image is not a soothing postcard.”

Seems the album is about global warming more than anything else.

Seems the album is about global warming more than anything else.

He mentions global warming with a whole slew of other subjects:

“I think global warming is an issue that is currently relevant, time sensitive, and a symptom of the shortsightedness of the U.S. As a broader metaphor, the drowning Statue of Liberty, a revered icon of the U.S., symbolizes the eminent demise of many of the ideals upon which the nation was founded. Civil liberties, freedom of speech, privacy, etc. have been decreasing since 9/11. The sun in the image could either be setting or rising and this ambiguity shows that there is still hope to turn things around.”

Oh i agree there are many themes of the album but he seems to put global warming at the forefront of these issues.

this is all looking relatively good

playing the residencies with allowance of video/audio recording might be the way they chose to limit their tour's need for transportation. It's an ok start i guess to follow your values

i HATE this argument

who cares if it's global warming or climate change? we need to do SOMETHING about it now...and by something, i mean making it the #1 global priority; we need our very best minds on this issue because if the world is warming at a very high rate, we need to fix it to where we can survive

Good, at least this has ruled out Zeitgeist as an anti-war / America is evil album.

Shep Fairey went to the same College as I, granted he graduated a few years before me. There are still thousands of "Andre The Giant Has a Posse" stickers everywhere around there.

Exactly Global Warming is not a political issue (at least it shouldnt be). We all live in the environment and we should all help to protect it.

PS I am not an Aging Hippie Liberal Douche!

Agreed. Don't be misled by media propaganda. The left, the right, the middle, they are all on the same page...and it all comes down to your money in their pockets.

Unless you all have a plan for turning off the sun, we're all doomed regardless.

Well we know he's not some pussy pacifist because he said he would actually fight for his country if there existed a clear and present threat. Someone else can find that interview...it was fairly recent though (within the last 1 or 2 years)

So it's more about your warped view of anyone who isn't a Republican, and less about anything he actually said

Thanks
