Another day, another failure.

So the job I thought for sure I was going to get fell through. It was just a part time thing, grading for a professor at my parents school, and it seemed to be materializing, but at the very end they decided now. And now apparently they might kick me out of the school as well. I guess the initial background check didn't pull up all my felonies.

The prof is cool enough to pay me out of his own pocket for the work I've done so far (50 hours), but he said he won't be able to afford to do that anymore.

In Missouri (and Texas, from what I can tell so far) it goes back 5-7 years. But that's misdemeanors. I was always under the impression felonies are permanent.

My security jawb back home had no issue w me having a misdemeanor. But the same company in Texas did. I'd have to wait until 2021 (five years after conviction) for the Texas dept of public safety to allow me to have a security license.

And in Missouri, I can get a lawyer to petition to have my charges removed from 99% of bg checks after 7 years.

my parents and the prof tried. but i think ultimately the hospital decided no. they are a very respectable and successful business, and i have assault and breaking and enterings... not a good match lol.

i would go overseas (like somewhere in the eu) but i cannot get a working visa for most countries without an fbi background check. and those records are permanent. so i tried to get croatian citizenship but they asked for the same thing.

i think most us states have laws that companies can only check seven years back. but i've got news stories written about me that a quick google search can pull up.

i'll figure it out. i'm working on an editing certificate so i might figure out some way to work online from home. that would be ideal. it's frustrating, but the important thing is that i am sober and studying.

I think it's bullshit ofc but there are lists of companies that hire felons. I don't know the quality of the work but..

Would that allow you to be self-employed? That would be pretty handy, as you get to avoid the whole bullshit recruiting process.
