Default favorite guitar players

For me, Yngwie is the most badass of the "shredders"

you might not like the style or the wankery, but the dude is killing it

Souless wankery is what it is indeed to me. He's an athlete, not an artist.

More twattery by twats. I actually saw this vid before too because this is the kind of vid links that made me stop hanging out on musician forums.

though this one has at least the slight benefit of sounding like a fzero X tune. Which i suppose i kinda ironic since it's from Racer X...

That's what these super shredders always end up sounding like to me, video game music. It would be enjoyable to play Doom to that shit but otherwise

james dean bradfield, bc, jonny greenwood, peter buck, johnny marr, stephen carpenter, joey santiago

i could give a fuck about shredding if it's not implemented into something worth actually listening to

i'm sure i left some huge ones off but these are more or less the fellas who kept me interested in the 6-stringed beast

i remember being so intimidated by all those yngwie and paul gilbert guys when i first started playing. it took me a while to understand that it's all rubbish and that i'd rather put my time into being a creative guitar player rather than a technical one.
they really are unbelievable at what they do though. it's just not up my alley.

anyway the correct answer to this thread is david gilmour.
nobody's got anything on him. most creative, fluent, expressive, and smart guitar player ever to touch the instrument

i've actually come to appreciate rhythm guitar players a lot more than lead players

it's so much harder to come up with great parts and play them consistently and make them swagger than it is to wank out a solo

heh, he likes to wank for sure but some of his tunes are pretty good

but the most interesting and unique wanker is probably buckethead

That list is baffling

Cobain and Ramone? They would even tell you they sucked. They took pride in not being good at the instrument.

Edit: Not that I don't absolutely adore their bands just to be clear

i agree that he had a very limited skillset but he still played in the first three ramones albums, and that's enough for me.
i mean, i'm aware he was a sort of fascist fuckwit but w/e
